WAIT...
Back in July, and that already seems like a long time ago, I was at the Renton River Days Parade walking through town back to my truck at the Fred Meyer parking lot. I had this chance encounter at Rainier Avenue and Sunset.
I love chance events and capturing them on video. It's all about timing and dumb luck. My first calling was art, and though I don’t make my living at it, it’s necessary to my every day. Without it I wouldn’t be much good at anything.
I’m one of those people that believes everything is connected to everything. You know, the Butterfly Effect. A small initial happening in one context, seemingly insignificant, results in a big change in another. I think the life that surrounds me is always intentionally communicating and revealing itself.
As an artist, I observe life through the lense of a maker. I’m always looking for the opportunity to create something. When I enjoy simple pleasures and excercise my curiosity to what surrounds me, I get over myself. It’s not always all about me. When my ego is set aside I observe, listen, probe and contemplate my dance with Shiva and my soul is nourished.
I love the all encompassing arch the fire truck is to frame this little piece. Or is the main theme the repeating stop signal voice? Frankly, the almost comedic counterpoint the traffic creates and that subtle entrance and exit of the minor secondary theme, the U-Haul truck, I couldn't have staged. The way it all shows up for me is right out of Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos, albeit, with a little contemporary irony and a somewhat wacky modern twist.
One of the things I’ve become very aware of is drivers stopped at the red light. They’re so over intent to make first break through the intersection, they miss the fact the light turned green. Life is in the eyes of the beholder after all.
Have a wonderful Labor Day and a week of discovery. Enjoy your dance, work and play and WAIT... Don’t forget to look around. The universe is talking.
