WAIT...

WAIT...

Back in July, and that already seems like a long time ago, I was at the Renton River Days Parade walking through town back to my truck at the Fred Meyer parking lot. I had this chance encounter at Rainier Avenue and Sunset.

I love chance events and capturing them on video. It's all about timing and dumb luck. My first calling was art, and though I don’t make my living at it, it’s necessary to my every day. Without it I wouldn’t be much good at anything.

I’m one of those people that believes everything is connected to everything. You know, the Butterfly Effect. A small initial happening in one context, seemingly insignificant, results in a big change in another. I think the life that surrounds me is always intentionally communicating and revealing itself.

As an artist, I observe life through the lense of a maker. I’m always looking for the opportunity to create something. When I enjoy simple pleasures and excercise my curiosity to what surrounds me, I get over myself. It’s not always all about me. When my ego is set aside I observe, listen, probe and contemplate my dance with Shiva and my soul is nourished.

I love the all encompassing arch the fire truck is to frame this little piece. Or is the main theme the repeating stop signal voice? Frankly, the almost comedic counterpoint the traffic creates and that subtle entrance and exit of the minor secondary theme, the U-Haul truck, I couldn't have staged. The way it all shows up for me is right out of Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos, albeit, with a little contemporary irony and a somewhat wacky modern twist.

One of the things I’ve become very aware of is drivers stopped at the red light. They’re so over intent to make first break through the intersection, they miss the fact the light turned green. Life is in the eyes of the beholder after all.

Have a wonderful Labor Day and a week of discovery. Enjoy your dance, work and play and WAIT... Don’t forget to look around. The universe is talking.

René,

July has been relegated to a distant memory...even in our temperate climate the hints of autumn are manifesting, from the leaves turning on our Japanese Maple tree, to the shorter days and cooler nights.  Happy Labor Day,  A

Rene'  I can understand your artistic approach... having had a mother and grand father who were artist...one made a living the other did not of art.... as far as your comment about the Red Light it is so true... too busy rushing and then missing the green light....  on the other hand I am glad Fall is here... soon it will be a little cooler here:), Endre

Hi Endre Barath, Jr. ... I made a living at art for about 20 years. I ended up making other choices because of the context I was at the time and that I felt trapped, kind of... Freeing myself from having to make a living at it was my choice. Like you too, one who loves literature, art, music, and life, a contemplative and creative life is one worth living! As to cooler weather, YES! I think summer started here in late March / April... I'm ready for Autumn!

Rene, I like your perspective, and I agree, everything came together in your video. Something about the "wait," kept me watching. Wait. Pause to reflect. Have a great Labor Day!

I love your sentence, "As an artist, I observe life through the lens of a maker."  One thing I have learned from being interested in photography is that the interest prompts us to see the bigger picture, without missing the fine details!

Indeed Myrl Jeffcoat ... photography is a catalyst. Like a hunter who must to survive, yet it's not about survival, it's a high expression of life.
