Unknown men in Searcy AR train depot

This picture was forwarded to me from Searcy Supreme Sleuth Anita Hart Fuller.  She grew up in Searcy and everyone assumes that she knows everyone who was once in this town.  And she almost does!

This appears to be at a train depot and we do have several expert railway sleuths.  The ladies behind look nicely dressed just as the men are.  In the background we have one well-dressed one and one who dressed more casually.  All appear to be fascinated with the photographer.

So if you know who they might be, send us a comment and perhaps we can identify.

Good morning Barbara. I don't know these guys but feel as if I could have once a long time ago.

Sheila, looks as if they are definitely father and son, doesn't it?

That's the Doniphan, Kensett, and Searcy Railroad Depot across from Spring Park at Spring St.

We've talked about it in the blog before.

This is probably early 1900's. Anita needs to tell us if that's one of her

mother's photos. I think she got a pic of Corrine at that depot. I do too and need to find it.

As to the gentlemen, way before my time.

Sorry, it was the train depot in Letona, Arkansas I was thinking of.

About 1924

Don, both of those were great pictures.  Anita probably did provide them.  It does seem that all the depots looked alike.  The one in this blog picture also looks like the one still standing on South Main Street.  Seems like I did it on a blog one time too.

This one was at Spring and Pleasure. Here's the 1919 map showing it.

It's actually called the  Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad on this map

but it was Doniphan, Kensett, and Searcy  before the big time railroad

was connected. Note the track ended there. we have talked about it before in

this blog. There's much more than you ever wanted to know in this blog from a number of the knowlegable blog coontributors.

The one on Main is this blog. It's a newer one.

Don, you are the very best record keeper.  I knew I had done those blogs but didn't have the energy to go find them.  And now you have done it for us!  Remember the pretty little building that was behind the Spring/Pleasure depot is still standing.

That photo is not mine. It was sent to me.....to send to Barbara.....by a dear friend, Evelyn Lundy. The photo belongs to her husband, who.....has no clue as to who the men are or WHY he has the picture.

Other Searcy Sleuths, get your deerstalkers on and magnifying glasses out. Don't let me down.

Yes, Don.  That is it!  My land, you are good!  You are too skilled to be retired.

I'm fairly certain the small red brick building still there on Spring across from First Baptist was the Railway Express Agency. A red brick depot for Rock Island (if memory is correct) was torn down and replaced by the flat roof office building currently at the site.

Roger, is this the one you were thinking of?  This is an old blog and the building was magnificent. http://actvra.in/4H6m

The men have flowers on their lapels...maybe a wedding party...considering the ladies dresses...
