Cecil the Lion

Real Estate Agent with McGraw Realtors

No doubt you’ve heard by now about Cecil the famous lion who was killed by the American dentist in Africa.

This is not Cecil the Lion

And you probably have pretty strong feelings about the situation.

Most people do.  It’s blowing up worldwide.  The office of the dentist are being boycotted and there’s even been an online petition started demanding justice for the killing of the lion.

Now this blog is not to argue for or against the hunting of wild animals like lions.  Those arguments are already being debated elsewhere online and in the world.

What I think is important for us in Real Estate and other professions to remember is this:  the world is connected place now.  What you and I do pretty much anywhere in the world can be noticed.  And if it is something like what the dentist guy did, you can find yourself becoming famous yourself very quickly.  And possibly in not such good ways because people have strong opinions about the world and what people do...and they're not afraid to express them.

Think about Real Estate or Your Profession and the world around us now:

In Real Estate, for example, we hold open houses.  And atSmile! You're on Camera! open houses, there’s a pretty high probability that you’re on camera and that you have not been told about that.  How do you behave when you are in someone’s empty house all alone?

Driving Down the Road

How about this one?  When you’re driving down the road, others take notice.  Dash cams are appearing in vehicles at a huge rate now.  The other day a cement truck cut me off in traffic.  It was a blatant type of move where the driver didn’t have to do what he did, but he did anyways.  And the name of that concrete company was all over his truck.  Guess which concrete company I will never use or recommend?  What does your driving say about you?

People are watching.

And they’ll tell others.

Now, the good news is that people will also tell others about the positive experience they had with you as their REALTOR® or in your profession.  When we provide great service, on time communication, professional knowledge and rise to the level of being the best we can be, people will take notice.

And providing a professional level of service should be our goal.

And in our personal lives, our goal should be like my momma always told me, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"

Honesty, Integrity, Results, Experienced. HIRE Me!

Good Thursday morning Bob Haywood -

Yep the Cecil story is certainly getting attention and will be a game changer.  We are wise to watch our actions and words as we are always being watched.  Keeping it between the lines in all we do and life will be better.

Bob, this is a good point!  With ALL social media available to everyone that wants to investigate YOU... always proceed with caution!!  Being self-employed, and trying to run a business, so many folks are very sensitive to topics out there, and you need to keep your comments and action focused on one thing..... building your business!!

Dan Hopper thanks for the follow and for stopping by my blog!  You are spot on, building our business has to be the focus of everything we do.  We have to learn to evaluate everything we do!

The ability for anything to go viral across social media and the internet should be cause for anyone to pause and really think about who they are and what they are doing in any situation.

Bob yes the golden rule applies each and every day - and most of us learned that at a very young age. That has always been my business model. Again - so nice to see you in the rain!  Like your new pic!

In all honesty though the tweet the dentist sent out was very stupid, it is amazing what people will put on twitter or social media without thinking. All it takes is for one person to take a screenshot and it is never going away again.

Be careful what you do/say online and now in person, but if you do something the majority of people don't agree with...dont post about it online.

Bob- you are absolutely right.  I've been almost hit or seen rude behavior from drivers here who represent a company.  That company name becomes etched in my memory!  All of us are very exposed these days and we have to be aware of it!

Good morning Bob. You are certainly right about people watching. If you live like you want to be proud of your actions there are worries.
