You've Been Mentioned in a Comment
Okay, so I promise, promise, promise that this is the last of this type of post. Yesterday I wrote, If I Don't Like You It Doesn't Mean I Don't Like You.
Here on ActiveRain, so many of us go way, way back. I wasn't here at the beginning of time, but I've been around here long enough to establish some solid relationships with my fellow bloggers. So much so that when I reply to a comment, I reply as if I'm talking to you face to face. You know, the way you would do a real live person. Then came the cold and impersonal Facebook tagging on ActiveRain. Oh my God, I thought I was going to die. I come here to get away from Facebook, but now there is just no escaping it. Given our conversational tone on this site, responding to someone by their full name just takes away the from the friendly conversational and personal tone of the comment. Excuse me, but that is not how I talk.
If you are responding to a post by the writer, there really is no need to tag them since they will be notified of comments anyway. Why not just return to the old 'first name' basis response? Huh, will ya huh, will ya huh, huh, huh? (in my 5 year old voice)
Many of you would agree with me and I know it based on your response to my post on Wednesday titled Ask an Ambassador: But What If I’m Not a Good Writer? In which case, a lot of your responded that we should write like we talk. Not in a million years do I have a conversation with someone and address them by their full name (first, middle, maiden and last name) and then cap it off with their title (in many cases here in the Rain happens to be Realtor). Do it for the Vine. Like the kids say "ain't gonna do it. It's just too freaking impersonal for me.
In my opinion, the exception to tagging is if you are writing a post and you mention someone by name. Call it tagging if you want, but we've been doing that for years and it's a practice I'll probably continue. But in the comments, I don't think so. Nope, I think I'll just stick to a first name basis. I mean we're among friends here right?
On a final note, you doesn't have to call me Charita Hughley Cadenhead. You can just call me Charita. Please and thank you.
