Depending on where you live in the U.S. (or even abroad) getting to and from work can be everything from a 15 step walk down the hallway (ME) to a 90 minute grueling bumper-to-bumper ordeal. Here in the ATL we do have some long commutes. People live farther out in the suburbs, mostly for the schools, and then face a long ride to and from work.
But Midtown Alliance and Midtown Transportation wanted to challenge Midtown Atlanta commuters to reclaim an hour of their day and save money by 'Trying Transit" through one of the many rail and bus options that are available.
Midtown Atlanta Commuters Try Transit For First Time
During the month of June, Midtown Transportation (a part of the Midtown Alliance) rolled out a special month-long Try Transit campaign. Throughout the month of June, Midtown Transportation invited drive-alone commuters in Midtown to look at other options.
Midtown commuters responded in a big way this year, setting a new recort for Midtown Transportation in transit pass distribution and one-on-one route planning. To date, 447 drive-alone commuters received free round-trip tranist passes in June, nearly a 49% increase in participation from 2014! And 148 of those participants received individual trip planning support to help them find the best route from their home to the workplace.
The enrollees of the program had an option to receive one round-trip transit pass from any of the region's transti providers, which include Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Tranist Authority (MARTA), Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA), Xpress, Gwinnett Count Transit (GCT) and Cobb Community Transit (CCT). Here's how that played out ---
- MARTA 345
- GRTA 72
- CCT 17
- GCT 13
That was an event for June, but it does show that there ARE options to sitting in your car to get to your workplace in Midtown Atlanta. Midtown Transportation is there to help residents and encourage the use of transit.
