We are in full swing of "Hurricane Season" and here is a list of items you should have on hand at all times just in case an emergency of any type should arise ...

 

EMERGENCY KIT (USE LARGE WATERPROOF PLASTIC TUB WITH LOCKING LID)

  • WATER  (one gallon of water per person AND per pet per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation)
  • NON-PERISHABLE FOOD (at the very least a three-day supply for each person and pet)
  • BATTERY POWERED RADIO AND/OR NOAA WEATHER RADIO WITH PLENTY OF EXTRA BATTERIES 
  • FLASHLIGHT AND PLENTY OF EXTRA BATTERIES 
  • FIRST AID KIT BABY WIPES OR MOIST TOWLETTES
  • GARBAGE BAGS
  • MANUAL CAN OPENER
  • CASH - IF POWER IS LOST ATM MACHINES MAY NOT WORK
  • CELL PHONE WITH EXTRA CHARGED CHARGER 
  • MATCHES
  • LIGHTER
  • CANDLES
  • FIRE EXTINGUISHER
  • PERSONAL HYGIENE PRODUCTS
  • CLOROX (any chlorine bleach)
  • TABLET & PENCIL
  • LIST OF PHONE NUMBERS IN CASE PHONE ISN'T ACCESIBLE TO LOOK UP NUMBERS
  • COPY OF ALL INSURANCE POLICIES (in zipped baggy)
  • LIST OF BANK ACCOUNT INFORMATION (in zipped baggy)
  • OVER THE COUNTER MEDICINE SUCH AS ASPRIN, TYLENOL, ETC...
  • PRESCRIPTION DRUGS 
  • PAPER TOWELS, TOILET PAPER, TISSUES
  • BLANKETS
  • WORD BOOKS, GAMES & PUZZLES
  • WRENCH OR PLIERS (FOR EMERGENCY SHUT OFF VALVES)
  • UTILITY GLOVES
  • EXTRA PERSCRIPTION GLASSES (IF YOU HAVE THEM)

Hello Kent,

Generally no hurricanes here, but still useful for fire season or the "earthquake" due soon.  When we lived in New Meixico, we had to evacuate twice due to wild fires; since then Gretchen has the emergency kit ready plus a short list of items to take with us in the car.

Kent, excellent list for Hurricane preparedness. Unfortunately, I've experienced evacuations and preparedness while living on the MS Gulf Coast. Let me add to your list a warning to PLEASE EVACUATE if a named hurricane is targeting your area. Go inward and stay with friends or family. Staying despite an evaculation warning is NOT WORTH IT!
