Cassandra's Cajun and American Restaurant!  WOWZERS!    As many of you are aware I love to write about destinations and real estate and combine them at times.....BUT I have to write about this restaurant in Killeen Texas!    Let me also say I have not run this by nor asked my Cajun friend and my photographer for my listings, Keith Cormier, if he has been there and what his thoughts were.

Let me start by saying I love food...I particulary love good food.    You know as well as I do that it is rare to satisfy everyone at the table, especially when you are dealing with foreign food.   I am in Texas anything across our boarders is considered foreign.   LOL.    It was even crazier of me to try this restaurant for the first time with 2 of the PICKIEST, FINIKIEST you name it IST in my family my father and my brother.    We seldom go out where something is either changed or sent back for some reason.  Lest you get a bad feeling about those two they are usually correct.   It just kills me to admit it.  Did I mention my brother is one of the best cooks in our family.

Let's start with the place is not on restaurant row on the expressway.  It is on Veteran's Memorial between KFC and McDonalds....many in the area know it as the restaurant where the big cow was for decades.   When you walk in you are pleasantly surprised by the decor and smiling helpfull staff.   Once seated our drinks came very quickly, my father ordered sweet tea **only order this if you are from the South**  they will make it half and half for you which will work for most people.    My father asked about the cajun gravy and was quickly brought a sample.   It was delicious!   They have a daily lunch menu so I ordered the liver covered in onions and cajun gravy with rice and cabbage.   My brother ordered the gator poboy.   My father ordered his favorite chicken fried steak (no cream gravy here.  You have to understand if a restaurant does not have cream gravy he is not happy) with the cajan gravy and mashed potatoes with cajun gravy.   When the food came it was excellent we all ate a little bit of each others food.  Every bit of it was homemade.   I am not in love with sweet cornbread because many times people just overload it with sugar and I think I am eating cake but this one was great light and not grainy.   I ate mine for dessert it was just sweet enough.   Before we left my father was talking to our waitress and told her "whoever is doing the cooking sure knows how to cook".   It is rare for him to call anyone over to compliment the food.  Usually he is asked how it was and he'll say either good or ok.

So we are giving Cassandra's a huge family thumbs up.   We will be taking my mother next week.

I am sorry there was no picture.  I didn't think an empty plate would work LOL.
