Cartus Behaving Badly

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Sonoran Living - The Velocity Group

I just closed a transaction with a Buyer, and throughout, Cartus was behaving badly. Their paperwork was truly ridiculous, our offer submission was in the 50 page range. After submission, they asked for initials on pages of their own documents, that didn't contain a field for signature or initials - nor did their own instruction call for initials on these pages.

Cartus let it die

The truly bad behavior from Cartus came at the close. The pool had gone unmaintained for weeks, the pool cleaner went missing, the lawn and landscape had not been maintained (and it is pretty hot in Arizona this time of year!). My single working Mom client, who had been in a 2 bed apartment  along with her two children, was too anxious and fearful to delay close over these issues. Keep in mind that Cartus holds all the cards, based upon their one sided agreements.

They now refuse to even hear my client's perspective, won't take a call, have instructed the local agent not to pass along any contact info.

Beware getting into business with Cartus, they don't believe in doing the right thing!dead grassCartus lets the landscape go

Never heard of that company, guess now I know why. Not a good way to do business, hopefully your client will be able to fix everything up easily and enjoy the home.

Stefan, they are a national relocation company, though I think they changed their name to Cartus just a few years back. I cannot recall what they went by before. It seems to be the same attitude the banks had when they sell REO properties, and they just don't seem to understand that they give up a lot of money and goodwill by being so heavy handed.

A moving experience!

I have worked with Cartus many times, and what you've described is not indicative of their normal way of doing business.

Yes, they're a relocation company, and as such they're often unwieldly and unbending, but in general I've found them to be competent and reasonable.

Alan, I am happy to hear that it isn't a typical experience with Cartus, but it also affirms that they should be willing to listen and either explain or respond.
