I have to say it again, One of the best parts of living here is seeing the wildlife. Neighbors have recently reported seeing bears around the Glacier View Meadows subdivision, and this is not anything new. This year reports cubs on decks, sows in driveways, in trees and one even got into a car.
We’ve been here for 18 years, and I’ve only seen bears from a good distance – (just as it should be.) But, because of the recent bear sightings, when our dog, Josie starts barking, I pick up the camera and go to see if it’s a bear…..or just a rabbit!
So far, the rabbits win the prize for the most rambunctious barking!
The other night Josie barked - just a soft “woof” then, several more delicate “woofs”, hesitating between each. I knew it wasn’t a bear. For a bear it would have been a hysterical, coming unglued, vociferous bark! But finally, I went outside to check out the situation. I only saw a doe and her fawn. The fawns are adorable with their white spots and lanky little legs, but Josie who is usually all right with the deer, wasn’t even looking in their direction.

I followed her gaze, and there on the rocks was a heron. Although it didn’t seem very threatening, she was definitely unsure of what that thing on the rocks might be!

Beside the beautiful scenery, the peaceful quiet, and cooler mountain temperatures, seeing the wildlife in our area is truly a joy; even if the peaceful quiet is occasionally interrupted when Josie sees a rabbit or something new!
I’ve lived in Colorado all of my life and I never tire of seeing the wildlife- Colorado Parks and Wildlife is a great resource for new residents in our area -but this just isn’t for our mountain communities, because sometimes the little (or big) critters will make their way into the cities too, like this bear who broke into a bakery last month!
"Bear breaks into Colorado bakery and eats 24 pies – butleaves one behind"
I just heard on the news, that it’s estimated there are 16,000-18,000 Black bears in Colorado. They are in 41 of our 50 states.....I think chances are good that one day I will get a photo, but my friend Jan took this photo in Glacier View a few years ago.

Wildlife is abundant in Glacier View Meadows; and it's an exciting time in real estate too!
