Wildlife in Glacier View, Livermore CO continued

I have to say it again, One of the best parts of living here is seeing the wildlife.   Neighbors have recently reported seeing bears around the Glacier View Meadows subdivision, and this is not anything new.  This year reports cubs on decks, sows in driveways, in trees and one even got into a car.

We’ve been here for 18 years, and I’ve only seen bears from a good distance – (just as it should be.) But, because of the recent bear sightings, when our dog, Josie starts barking, I pick up the camera and go to see if it’s a bear…..or just a rabbit!

So far, the  rabbits win the prize for the most rambunctious barking!

The other night Josie barked - just a soft “woof” then, several more delicate “woofs”, hesitating between each. I knew it wasn’t a bear. For a bear it would have been a hysterical, coming unglued, vociferous bark! But finally, I went outside to check out the situation.  I only saw a doe and her fawn. The fawns are adorable with their white spots and lanky little legs, but Josie who is usually all right with the deer, wasn’t even looking in their direction.

I followed her gaze, and there on the rocks was a heron. Although it didn’t seem very threatening, she was definitely unsure of what that thing on the rocks might be!

Beside the beautiful scenery, the peaceful quiet, and cooler mountain temperatures, seeing the wildlife in our area is truly a joy; even if the peaceful quiet is occasionally interrupted when Josie sees a rabbit or something new!

I’ve lived in Colorado all of my life and I never tire of seeing the wildlife- Colorado Parks and Wildlife is a great resource for new residents in our area -but this just isn’t for our mountain communities,  because sometimes the little (or big) critters will make their way into the cities too, like this bear who broke into a bakery last month!

"Bear breaks into Colorado bakery and eats 24 pies – butleaves one behind"

I just heard on the news, that it’s estimated there are 16,000-18,000 Black bears in Colorado. They are in 41 of our 50 states.....I think chances are good that one day I will get a photo, but my friend Jan took this photo in Glacier View a few years ago.

.

Wildlife is abundant in Glacier View Meadows; and it's an exciting time in real estate too!

Hi Mary-What great photos. I don't think I would like bears in my back yard and on my deck though. Hope you are having a marvelous summer.

I love this, Mary, I absolutely adore it. The deer with her fawn. The blue heron -- who knew that blue heron lived in the Colorado mountains, I sure as hell didn't -- and the bears, oh you can't go wrong with pictures of bears, well, unless they're breaking into your cabin and eating your chairs and tables or drinking all of your (heaven forbid) wine.

That photo of the deer and her fawn is so sweet!  And, you don't get to take pictures of bears every day.  Wonderful stuff!

I agree with you, Mary. I will never get tired of seeing the wildlife around me. We have some opportunities in our areas to see some neat scenes with nature in action.

Hi Sharon,  in 18 years I have never seen a bear in my back yard or on the deck...normally they wouldn't do that.  Thanks, I hope you are having a great summer too!

Hi Bruce, Jan's picture is good enough for me too!  If I get a photo, it will be from a safe distance believe me -) Thank you Bruce, nice to see you.

Hi Elizabeth, who knew herons lived here??!!  We have a small pond in the back and every spring the heron (unimaginatively named Harry) comes back. I agree, no bears in the cabin- OK, they can have the chairs but definitely NOT the wine!  Thanks Elizabeth, have a great day.

Thanks Myrl, I'm glad you stopped in. The little fawns have been so much fun to watch this year.  The bears are elusive- but I will get a photo one  of these days!

Hi Debbie, I could not agree more! Thanks, have a wonderful Colorado day!

Thanks John, enjoy your day in Westcliffe!

Hi Mary, can't wait to learn more about your area. I have a daughter in Denver, and really enjoy the smaller towns in Colorado.

Hi Debb, thanks for stopping by.  I grew up in Denver, although at the time, there weren't as many people there as now!  I enjoy the smaller towns, too :-)

Hi, Mary...we have the same situation here. The bears come for a visit and so do the tamer forms of wildlife. I watched a doe raise her twin fawns around me over the course of the summer. The three of them are still hanging out together this fall. It's pretty cool that we have so many wildlife viewing opportunities.
