 Moving and unpacking

Did You  Take Your  Refresher Course in Moving

Every Real Estate agent should move every 5-7 years

in my humble opinion

I have always had compassion for my clients when they moved   I understand the stress of packing ,turning on utilities  dealing with movers , mortgage companies  and yes agents and title companies so everything runs smoothly   I do think it is good to have a refresher course

It has been almost  a week since my move and I am still not completely unpacked   I am pretty much settled in   I am lucky as everything went smooth as silk . I had a wonderful agent   I will say it does not matter how easy the move goes it is exhausting .

My daughter and wonderful son-in law  and granddaughter helped me set things up    I know I can take my time now but I fell behind on my blogs and took some time away from the office but not my clients .

I am now in heaven   I have always told my clients I did not envy them  packing up a house is a nightmare especially when you have lived there for years . My rule of thumb if you have not used it in a year throw it away or give to charity . Unpacking is more fun as long as you remember to label  all your boxes

Well I have had my refresher course and my compassion is renewed .

Did You  Take Your  Refresher Course in Moving -

Do you have plans to renew ?

Hannah, I remember the last time I moved (1998) I swore I wouldn't move again for at least 5 years because that was the 7th time I'd moved over a period of 8.5 years (long story) and I was so tired of it.  I more than surpassed my intention to stay at least 5 years... now in year 17!  If I even think of moving I get overwhelmed.

Oh, I unpacked all boxes within the first week as I wanted to feel at home ASAP.  Now I have at least twice as much stuff as I did during my last move which is why I don't even like to think of moving again.

Congrats on the new home!  I moved 3 years ago and I agree that it really does make a huge difference when you have been through it.  I tend to unpack at rapid speed. Don't rest until I'm all moved in. The move prior to this one was two weeks before Christmas and I was all settled in within a week!

The only good thing about the process of moving is getting rid of junk.  Somehow, holding on to things you will never use is fine for every day life until you have to put the worthless item in a box to haul off somewhere else.

It's excellent experience to have in our business so you really understand not only the practical reality of moving, but the emotional and psychological side of thing. Been there done that a bunch of times - my biggest move was from Boston to Carlsbad in 2005. And I've had 2 small moves since then!

Chris Ann Cleland  Moving is one of the most stressful situations you do in life . I went shopping the other day and felt light headed . I put everything down and left thinking it would all be there an other day as the store was crowded. I thought it was just the stress of moving and the next day made an appointment with the doctor for a checkup - Went to the office next day went home with chills . Turns out had a ear nose and throat infection . When i told the doctor I moved  he told me it could have been all the stress from moving His son is a Realtor also .

I think moving is a wonderful thing .What would we do if people did not move

Jeff Dowler CRS  This one was an easy move . I had every thing down pat but as you said  there is the physical and emotional side and it does take its toll . It is good to take a refresher course so we remember just what our clients go through to we are sympathetic  and understanding to their needs .It will be appreciated . I think sending dinner over might be a nice gift .

Hi Hannah -- there's a part of moving that is exciting and exhilarating.  The other part and likely the reason why more people choose to stay put is "it's a lot of work".   Congrats on the change in residence.

As they say, when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. I can feel your exhaustion into my bones. Moving is no easy task. The older one gets, the more stuff one has, the longer you stay put, the harder it gets.

I hope every muscle in your body finds a way to relax. May every box get unpacked and you have a place to remember where you put things. This experiences has been a life experience you won't forget and it makes you even more knowlegable and empathetic than you already are towards future clients too!

Patricia Feager, MBA, GRI, Cert Negotiations Expert, Military Relo Prof  I am so loving my new place . Right after my move I had a meet-up wit Joanna Cohlan  I could not understand why in all the photos my eyes looked like I was drunk  Well it turned out I had a fever and and ear nose throat infection and swollen glands . Those little thermometers you buy at the drug stores they do not work . Took my temp it said 96.7 right before I went to the doctors .When I got to the Dr . 15 minutes away it was 100.9 .... I miss those old fashion mercury thermometers we had as kids . At least they worked . I am still alive ...So that is why my eyes looked drunk it was fever .  took me 2 weeks to recover sleep is what I needed .Thankfully we have modern technology and could work from home .
