Saddlebred Sunday - Tango on Thursday

Although we had a bit of rain on Thursday morning and the arena was a sloppy mess, we still got in a few laps outside in the driveway.  A "normal" horse would have been fine in the arena, even with the mud.

Not Tango!

Why?  Too clumsy...he's a "tripper".  Too fast...Tango plus mud is not good, it's too slippery for him to corner quickly.  Too risky...he just got new shoes on Monday and pulling one off in the mud could damage his feet.

So, we settled for a few passes down the driveway.  But only a few because I don't love the gravel for his precious feet either!

Call me an overprotective Mom but anything that goes wrong wreaks havoc on my checkbook!

I think most animal owners are protective of their animals. I know my pet is part of the family even on days he is not on his best behavior.

Jenna,  You did the right thing for Tango ... regardless of the outcome on your checkbook.  I feel you would write any kind of check to ensure Tango is well taken care of

Stefan Winter I think you are right.  My husband and my trainers call me overly cautious.  I don't think so!

Kathleen Daniels of course, I would.  I just don't WANT to have to do it if I can avoid it.  He's such a baby anyway, the slightest boo boo causes him to pout for days.

Tango looks tall and proud and so does his Momma! You both look like you could have used a little more time together than just a few trips up and down the driveway.

Nicole Doty - Gilbert Real Estate Expert we did do some additional exercises (bending and flexing) inside but we both find that boring!

What a nice looking horse, even a short walk down the driveway looks exciting.

I think I would be protective like that well.  I worry about my puppies walking on gravel.  It hurts my feet.

Good morning Jenna. You have good reason to be overprotective and Tango loves you for it. Amazing animal!

I never gave it a thought about gravel on a horses feet. You have opened my eyes. Of course it would be good getting a rock caught in his shoe or bruise the softer tissue.

Tango is priceless! Those are great photographs and Tango clearly depends on you to know what's best for him! I just love how he lifts his leg so high and his mane blows in the wind! Trust! I can tell he trusts you to make right decisions for him!

Scott Godzyk yes, anything that I do with Tango is pure joy!

Tammy Lankford mine too!  Remember when we were kids and barefoot all the time?

Joe Petrowsky thank you!  He's clumsy enough on his own, so I take no chances.

Debbie Reynolds you're exactly right.  The delicate tissues of his feet could suffer a bruise that would take weeks to heal.

Patricia Feager, MBA, GRI, Cert Negotiations Expert, Military Relo Prof Priceless, indeed.  I have people trying to buy him all the time.  LOL!  The high leg action is the hallmark of his breed, the American Saddlebred.  Funny about the wind, my husband was there shooting video for me that day and he said, WOW he's a lot faster than he looks!

Debbie Laity Horses and I go way back!  If I could bring Tango home and keep him in the backyard, I would certainly do it.
