Spotlight on South Street Seaport Historic District!

http://www.defalcorealty.com/The South Street Seaport Historic District is located where Fulton Street meets the East River, adjacent to the Financial District, the East River and Two Bridges neighborhood. Containing some of the oldest architecture in downtown Manhattan, the South Street Seaport features renovated original mercantile buildings, renovated sailing ships, the former Fulton Fish Market, and modern tourist malls featuring food, shopping, and nightlife, with a view of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Since it began life as a Dutch West Indies outpost in 1625, the South Street Seaport has been attracting business and visitors to its location. The museum was founded in 1967 by Peter and Norma Stanford. In 1982, redevelopment began to turn the museum and surrounding area into a tourist attraction; the Fulton Fish Market was renovated into a shopping area and dining was added.

A section of nearby Fulton Street is preserved as cobblestone and lined with shops, bars, and restaurants. The Bridge Cafe, which claims to be "The Oldest Drinking Establishment in New York" is in a building that formerly housed a brothel.

Though it sustained damage in the recent hurricane, the South Street Seaport has been repaired and is open to the public, who want to enjoy the flavor of the historic roots as well as upscale shopping, great dining and beautiful views.
