Customizing Google Maps - What's New 2014
Craig Daniels has a great tutorial here. Bob Stewart talked about this today in his webinar "Getting Blog Posts to Rank in 2015".
If you missed Bob's webinar today, please check my blog later, for I will post my notes from it. Meanwhile, check out "ActiveRain Gives You The Blueprint For Successful Blogs"
Perhaps you've seen my tutorial video on customizing Google Maps. I recorded that back in 2011. Over the past year, Google Maps received a pretty big makeover in how it looks. Just in the past week, one of the last pieces was upgraded. This is the piece where you can create "My Maps". A custom map is the ability for you to draw on a map with boundaries for instance. You can also put in "markers" on places that you want to highlight. This is an awesome feature for real estate bloggers, because you can not only create these custom maps but you can embed them into your posts.
Yesterday, I recorded a quick 7 minute video that gives a whirlwind tour of how to find the things that you were accustomed to in the "classic my maps" interface. I wanted to get this out there ASAP because the new interface may be a bit challenging... until, someone shows you where to look for your tools.
Here's an example of a custom map that I create in the new tutorial
And here is the new tutorial "what's new" video for you to watch
