Well, here I am back to the grind.... I returned from a sweet vacation to the Chicago area to visit with an old buddy of mine from waaaay back! Rick and I were in the Army together from early 1971 to mid '72. We were roommates in Germany, we bought a car together and explored almost all of Germany, saw the Berlin Wall, even got to go through checkpoint Charlie and visited East Berlin. We went to England, saw all the cool stuff in London. We ususally get together once a year and hang out, play tons of golf, sip on some brews, catch some local music and catch up with our lives.
This year, I went to visit him in Chicago. We went to a White Sox game, in which my Rays cut them no slack in a 11-3 pounding...
Sunday, we went to a Cubs game and saw the Cubs complete a sweep of the World Series Champs, SF Giants.
Interesting since the new manager of the Cubs was my teams old manager, Joe Maddon.
It was weird seeing him in a Cubs uniform.... arrrggghh!
We had a blast, visiting downtown Chicago by plane, train, car, and boat! Ricks niece's 32 ft yacht provided some sweet views as we ran across from Portage 28 miles to see the city skyline from Lake Michigan, docked in the marina and walked the riverwalk to Dick's Last Resort, where dining is an experience of rudeness!
Did the Sears (Willis) Tower, took the Architectural cruise through town on the Chicago river in which the guide gave us toooo much information (TMI) to remember, but it was nice to hear about all the interesting buildings in the city!
All in all... a great visit! Rick used to love coming to Florida to escape the Chicago winters each February... since I have moved to Albuquerque. Next year I will give Rick a tour of The Land of Enchantment!
But now it's back to work!!
