Sunday, August 23, 2015 is National Go Topless Day and
Free The Nipple is scheduled at Hampton Beach in New Hampshire
Heidi Lilley, 54, and Kia Sinclair, 23, are using Facebook to mobilize women to gather at the beach for a topless sit-in.
FYI...there is currently no law prohibiting toplessness in NH.
Heidi and Kia hope to de-sexualize public perception of women's breasts.
The media is all over this.
The comments people are leaving on the articles written about the event prove just how much we need to raise awareness.
People are "outraged".
People are "disgusted" and "offended" by the possibility of seeing women's breasts on a public, family beach.
"What about the children? How will parents explain this to them?"
S E R I O U S L Y?
Kia Sinclair's response to the negative reactions.....
"Breasts were designed for children so they are family friendly".
I agree, and I'm all for freeing the nipples.
Breasts should not be considered sexual objects, and nudity should not be offensive and dirty. We, as a country, are pretty screwed up when it comes to the human body, especially the female body.
Free The Nipple is not a threat to our children, or to all that is pure and wholesome....quite the opposite actually.
The first time this really became clear to me was on a trip to St. Martin.
Sitting at the beach I got a real education on just how advanced other countries are when it comes to this subject.
Women are topless on the beaches there and the only ones giggling about it like Beavis and Butthead are the Americans.
It's perfectly normal to see a topless mother walking the beach with her topless little girl beside her.
It was beautiful to see a toddler rubbing his mother's bare breast as he lay comfortably in her lap falling asleep.
I watched a couple of teenage boys sitting on the beach as a topless woman walked towards them. NO REACTION.
Can you imagine how an American teen boy would react?
The most amazing thing I saw, something I will never forget.....
a woman walking the beach topless, with only one breast.
It's hard enough in this country to find a woman with the confidence to go topless when they have two breasts! Impressive, to say the least!
Here's hoping that movements like Free The Nipple generate some much needed awareness so future generations won't suffer the sexual hangups we currently have in this country.
