The Free The Nipple Movement Is Not A Threat To Our Children

Sunday, August 23, 2015 is National Go Topless Day and

Free The Nipple  is scheduled at Hampton Beach in New Hampshire

Heidi Lilley, 54, and Kia Sinclair, 23, are using Facebook to mobilize women to gather at the beach for a topless sit-in.

FYI...there is currently no law prohibiting toplessness in NH.

Heidi and Kia hope to de-sexualize public perception of women's breasts.

The media is all over this.

The comments people are leaving on the articles written about the event prove just how much we need to raise awareness.

People are "outraged".

People are "disgusted" and "offended" by the possibility of seeing women's breasts on a public, family beach.

"What about the children?  How will parents explain this to them?"

 S E R I O U S L Y?

Kia Sinclair's response to the negative reactions.....

"Breasts were designed for children so they are family friendly".

I agree, and I'm all for freeing the nipples.

Breasts should not be considered sexual objects, and nudity should not be offensive and dirty.  We, as a country, are pretty screwed up when it comes to the human body, especially the female body.

Free The Nipple is not a threat to our children, or to all that is pure and wholesome....quite the opposite actually.

The first time this really became clear to me was on a trip to St. Martin.

Sitting at the beach I got a real education on just how advanced other countries are when it comes to this subject.

Women are topless on the beaches there and the only ones giggling about it like Beavis and Butthead are the Americans.

It's perfectly normal to see a topless mother walking the beach with her topless little girl beside her.

It was beautiful to see a toddler rubbing his mother's bare breast as he lay comfortably in her lap falling asleep.

I watched a couple of teenage boys sitting on the beach as a topless woman walked towards them.  NO REACTION.

Can you imagine how an American teen boy would react?

The most amazing thing I saw, something I will never forget.....

a woman walking the beach topless, with only one breast.

It's hard enough in this country to find a woman with the confidence to go topless when they have two breasts!  Impressive, to say the least!

Here's hoping that movements like Free The Nipple generate some much needed awareness so future generations won't suffer the sexual hangups we currently have in this country.

In this country, we are definitely hung up on nudity issues, and anything that starts getting people a bit more relaxed about au naturel is great.

Lou:  Let's hope we can make it less of a hot topic!

Kat:  Relaxed is a good choice of words!  That's exactly what we need. We are far to tense when it comes to nudity!

This is certainly an interesting blog topic. You will have to write a follow up blog on this event.

Cover the nipple

You are adding to the moral decline of America. Many men will take advantage of this in a lustful way and you are causing much damage to society. A woman will never be a man. If you are not happy being a woman you can become a man in our country. Have some respect for yourself and our country and it's fading morality. Cover the nipple.

Cover The Nipple:  Thank you!  I have no interest in being or becoming a man, nor do I have any interest in uncovering my nipples. Unfortunately, being raised in this country, I would not feel comfortable doing so.

I don't see this as a moral issue at all. The problem, as I see it, is that it is being made a moral issue.

As for the men and their "lustful way".....sounds like they have some work to do.  You don't control men's dirty minds by restricting women's lives!

I get you found online.

I can't quite get my head around the need for this sit in.   Seems like you ladies would have better things to focus on..

As for no laws..... I'm pretty sure Hampton Beach charges people all the time with indecent exposure.....

and if you're really perky they add on lewdnes.

SEND PICS of the arrests (bare chested preferably)   :P  I'm Ok with it~

Matthew:  I think the whole point is that women's breasts should not be considered "indecent" or "lewd".....perky or otherwise.

Sharon Tara I'm so glad I did not miss this post.  I enjoyed Alan Kirkpatrick's comment.  This would not be of interest to me.  Sometimes we need to take into consideration the views of others, on both sides of a topic.

Good morning Sharon,

I believe this was voted down:

Represenative David Moore wanted no nipples showing from either sex, no yoga pants and a couple of other items.

Lou:  The weather was horrible yesterday and there was not much of a gathering at the event. I wasn't there but I did read the news reports.  At least they generated some media coverage and got their message out there.

Sharon, having lived in Europe the first fourteen years of my life I have been exposed to women on beaches walking around in mono-kinis and when I returned as an adult US Army soldier to Germany I traveled again all over Europe and enjoyed the different customs of Europe vs. the US.....now with that said it is very entertaining to see the different reactions to this subject around the country and I love the exposure it is getting on both Coasts... on a side note I would have missed your post had it not been for our friend  Michael Jacobs

Endre:  When I first experienced the difference in attitude it was quite shocking to me....I thought how sad it was that the US has such hangups and stigma associated with the human body.

I would have missed your post if not for Michael too.  So glad he tagged me!

Endre Barath, Jr. - And I thought of you and Sharon when I read the news about the event since Sharon had written the post for her area and you --- since Venice is practically in your backyard.

On a side note - I was in Venice on First Friday this month -- wow -- what a zoo(I mean even more so)...lots of food trucks and traffic along Abbot Kinney. It's been a long time since I've been there

Aloha Sharon,

When you educate your children and have serious discusions about the human body and it's functions there is no need to be fearful of the human form, clothed or not.

However, if you want to control someone make them feel bad about themselves. If you want to subjugate them, tell them that their natural person is disgusting and needs to be hidden, is sinful and morally wrong.

This is what many supposed religions have taught and it belies their true intent(control)  and the danger of ignorance and how one has exploited the other.

If someone has a problem with nudity they have a problem with themselves.

a hui hou,

Kimo Stowell  Perfectly stated!  I couldn't agree with you more. Thanks so much for stopping by to comment. Although the event in my state was a wash due to the heavy rain, at least the media picked up on the story and it got some attention.
