The dormant project now named The Outlet Collection at Elk Grove may come to life soon, offering a grand attraction to the residents of Elk Grove. Under the new ownership of Howard Hughes, the current mass of halfway constructed buildings along Highway 99 may transform into a 775,000 square ft. shopping center in an estimated year or two once construction resumes.
At present, Elk Grove residents must drive 16.5 miles to the nearest mall located in Downtown Sacramento or 17 miles to the Arden Fair Mall. Local Elk Grove shopping centers include Tilly’s, Khols, TJ Maxx, Target, and Vivi among others as well as dozens of restaurants. However, the addition of the Outlet Collection will provide consumers and immense amount of fresh options for entertainment, dining, and leisurely shopping. The Outlet Collection at Elk Grove is projected to contain a fourteen screen movie theatre as well as a children’s play area.
Not only will the new outlets benefit Elk Grove recreationally, but economically. Elk Grove mayor Gary Davis in an interview with local News 10 said, “To have a Northern California regional sales tax generator in our city will be a tremendous benefit.” He continued, “Those sales tax dollars help us put police officers on the street, helps us do municipal services and keep our residents happy (sic)."
This will be a wonderful place for my family and I to shop in Elk Grove. Currently, we have a choice of traveling to the Folsom Outlets, about 23 mi northeast, or to the Vacaville outlets, about 46 mi east. Shopping with great choices without having to get on the freeway is incredibly convenient.
