Happy Birthday Mrs. Butter aka. Julia Child!

Julia Child is certainly a legend in her field and I have endless respect for her. Thanks for the reminder of her impact!

Endre Barath, Jr. Check out the movie Julie & Julia, if you have not seen it.  I just watched it again a couple of weeks ago.  I guarantee, you will want to jump up and prepare one of Julia's delicious recipes.  I love that she found her passion later in life and let nothing stand in her way.  I enjoy cooking classes and cooking!

 Good Sunday morning Endre. I did not realize that we were celebrating the hundred and third birthday of Julia. Time flies when we are having fun, doesn't it?

Great post! Julia Child and WGBH transformed American cuisine. What a spectacular woman! her kitchen is in the Smithsonian and a neighbor helped move it from Boston to the museum and then participated in the installation of it - she was a friend of Julia's and i was really envious to think of having Julia Child as a friend!

Endre - Julie Child was a great cook who persevered.  That is a good lead in to your services and it is an inspiration for us all.

Like you, I have loved Julia Child, and watched her PBS series (all of them), including the Dan Akroyd one.  She  was a Pasadena gal, no doubt Michael Jacobs knew that.  She introduced French cooking to America...loved Meryl Streep in the role too, and she lived in SB and made two restaurants famous and well loved.  They are both wonderful dives.  A

Hi Endre - Julia Child was always one of my heroes. She taught me how to make Bearnaise, and I have almost all of her books, including the excellent How To Cook, which Mary got autographed for me.

Endre- she was a favorite of mine as well.  I still watch some of her shows on PBS and one of my thrills was getting to see her kitchen in the Smithsonian.  What a pioneer she was!  Happy Birthday, Julia. 

Julia was a fascinating woman and I enjoyed two movies about her life story too and a few books written about her too. She was ahead of her time in the kitchen, where most women began life anyways, yet wasn't respected in Paris, as you say. She overcame adversities and treated us to many delicious recipes. To me, she represents every kids grandmother who ever enjoyed cooking and baking!

Hi Endre -- as Alexandra Ron and Alexandra Seigel commented I knew Julia was from Pasadena. A few weeks ago at an open house --- a visitor came through and told me he had something in his car he wanted to show me.  Hmm an offer?  No but an old photo of the McWilliams(Julia Childs' maiden name) home around the corner.  Although an offer is always nice to receive, it was a real treat to see this photograph that the visitor had just found that week.

We all love Julia, and Michael Jacobs that must have been a nice experience.  You should write a post about that.  When we first moved here, we were buying Santa Barbara shrimp and I was asking how to fix them, and the lady in front of me told me that she was best friends with Julia, and told me how to fix the shrimp, Julia style.  A

I did not know much about Ms. Child until I read your post. She did have the best work ethic of dedication, perseverance and being focused on the goal. Hmm sort of reminds me of someone we know! Any idea Mr. Endre?? 

Endre Barath, Jr. - Hard to believe that she would be 103 today!  What an inspiration to anyone who thinks that if they haven't make their mark in life by 40, that the best is yet to come!  Happy Birthday Julia!

 She was a legend and I will have to look at some of her cook book she was focused but then the french can be well they are the french....

Chef Dolores bought these books many years ago.
