Hot Tub or Jacuzzi?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Daytona Condo Realty, 386-405-4408

Is there any difference between Hot Tub and Jacuzzi? Reading descriptions to condo buildings in Daytona Beach area, I run into Hot Tubs, Jacuzzi, Jacuzzi Hot tub and Jacuzzi/Hot Tub.

Asked my wife and my son, and they thought Hot Tub is outdoor, and Jacuzzi is smaller and indoor…

But this is not the difference if there is any at all. Do not worry about it. You can call it a hot tub or Jacuzzi, and it would mean the same thing. These terms are interchangeable.

Jacuzzi

Of course, you may run into those, that use hot water tub with no jets, and then they are Hot tubs, as Jacuzzi can only be with the jets.

Actually, Jacuzzi is simply the brand name. It is the name of the company by Jacuzzi brothers, Italian immigrants, who created the first  jetted tub in 1968.

Funny, you can’t call a non-NAR member a REALTOR, but you can call any jetted tub a Jacuzzi… I guess that when you sit in a Jacuzzi and relax, you are more generous with the name, even a trademarked one :)

Hello Jon Zolsky, Daytona Beach, FL

Yikes, what a photo!  That's enough to distract anyone from the jets

Jon - So I guess it is like Kleenex and tissue paper. I pretty much thought that hot tub and Jacuzzi were the same thing.

Nice photo by the way.

The one that I find I use wrong all the time is sea-doo.  I should say personal water craft, but that's not where my brain goes. I correct myself when I catch it.

Jon caught my spelling error

Lisa Von Domek - I had a problem with finding a photo. I still used the blurring tool in photoshop to make this nicer, though :)

But the text worked with it, hence it is here

I would never use the term Jacuzzi for a non-Jacuzzi jetted tub. Only true Jacuzzis should be called a Jacuzzi. When it comes to a hot tub, generally those are outdoors, but you can also have a Japanese tub which just gets hot installed in your indoor bath, too.

For me a jacuzzi is a tub inside the bathroom...I think it is a regional thing.

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents you are very strict. Until couple of days ago I did not even know that Jacuzzi was a brand name. But industry gurus say it is the same thing and is and can be used interchangeably.

By the way, they say that industry standard now is Jacuzzi hot tub.

I simply would use one or the other, but would stop doing Jacuzzi/Hot tub. Anyway, I was curious and that;s what happened when you get curious, you get and a$$hole in the water :)

Jon unless you live in California then you have to be specific that it is a hot tub and you can only call it a Jacuzzi is  if it has the label on it...keep in mind CA is the most litigious  state in the US:)Endre

I wonder if these tubs are as popular as they were in past years. We rarely use the jetted tub in our home.

Endre Barath, Jr. You see, and yet people live in California :)

In other parts of US it is much more relaxed. And I feel good in Florida that my a$$ in a Jacuzzi hot tub is not going to be sued :)

"This distinction does not hold up in industry discussions, and from the perspective of a strict definition, it is best to treat hot tub and Jacuzzi® as mutually interchangeable words. Product literature, for example, refers often to "Jacuzzi hot tubs" (see here)

Roy Kelley - funny, but we lived in a condo with a Jacuzzi for years and never use it. But we have one by the pool and we sometimes use it.

I think registered trademarks are federal, Jon, and people can call things whatever they want but it doesn't make it right nor legal. Not to mention, journalistic standards are you can't Xerox a document nor blow your nose on Kleenex without using an uppercase letter to indicate the brand.

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents - they are, but how on earth product literature uses Jacuzzi Hot Tub? I saw it myself. Interesting, I use them interchangeably when describing condos.

So, on my website I have about couple of hundred uses of one or the other term, and also using both of them. Never a problem.

But we changed the name of the company to Daytona Condo Store and I got an email right away. Condo Store was trademarked. The company is not in business for several years, but they still have the trademark. And we had to change the name again, and it was crazy.
