Winning the Google Search Results

The following is a true story.  Family Looking for the Haywood Home Team

 

Your phone rings.  It's a buyer who is new to your town.  They're moving from out of state.  They need a REALTOR® so they Googled REALTORS® in (insert name of town here) and your name came up in the top of the search results.

 

Or did it?

 

That scenario plays out everyday in America.  Think about it.  How many times a day or a week do you Google the information you're looking for?  Lots, right?  Since that's how so many people find the information they're searching for, it is imperative that you know how to win the Google search results.

 

But, you may ask, what about the ginormous corporations like Zillow, Trulia and Realtor.com?  They typically dominate the top of most Real Estate related search results in Google.  While that's true, it doesn't mean you can't beat them or at least be right in the mix at the top with them...if you know what you're doing.

 

So, here's a couple of pointers to get you on your way to being the agent that comes in top of the Google search results.

 Google search results

First, do a Google private window search or anonymous search of your name in your browser.  In other words, Google your name in a private browser window.  You do this for two reasons.  First, because Google knows who you are when you're online.  Going private makes you not known to Google which means you'll get search results that are not specifically tailored to your previous searches or to who you are as a REALTOR®.  Yes Google does this.  All the time.  It's who they are.  You do this secondly to see what the general public sees when they Google your name.

 

Are you showing up?

Is your website showing up?

Is your Google profile showing up?

Is your ActiveRain profile showing up?

Is anything about you showing up?

 

If not, guess what?  Yeah, you're invisible to potential buyers and sellers.  And if you are invisible in the Google search results, you more than likely won't be visible in Real Estate for very long because potential buyers and sellers won't be able to find you where they do most of their searching.

 

And if they can't find you, odds are they aren't finding your listings, services and blogs either...

 

If this is true in your life, you must remedy this immediately!

 

Here's how:

 

♦ Set up a Google profile.  Click this link to go to the Google Profile Page

 

♦ Start blogging.  And get your ActiveRain profile set up.  And blog a lot.  Blog your listings by address.  Blog the neighborhoods in your city.  Write about special events and other things. ♦ Personal website:  If you choose to do a personal website and your website isn't showing up in the Google search results, talk to your web designer about your SEO (Search Engine Optimization).  My guy rocks at driving my website to the top of the Google search results when you Google my name, Haywood Home Team or Bob Haywood Realtor.  If you Google "Owasso top Realtors" I still show up the top 5 positions.  And if you Google Owasso OK Realtors, I'm in the top 3.  And all of this is on Google page 1.  

 If you click my name in Google, you will see my website in the top two positions on page 1 followed by my ActiveRain results.  What's important is that the next two results are from my brokerage and then my Linked In page.  What is missing?  Zillow and Trulia.  It may be that they don't care who I am.  And it may be that they don't care about agent personal search results by name.  That's okay with me.  What I care about is that they are not dominating my name in the Google Search Results.

♦ Finally, never give up.  Never surrender.  Your goal should be to OWN those top search results so that potential buyers and sellers will find YOU.  The more you push good granular information onto the Internet, the more Google is going to recognize you as an author and authority in the world of Real Estate. And the more that happens, the better your blogs will rank.  

So there you go.  Hopefully this will help you to think about what you blog and how to use the power of this forum to be the top search results for real estate in your part of the world.  My goal is to beat everyone in the search results for what I write and that should be your goal too.

So go get em!
