Guided by their vision, “Developing tomorrow's leaders in a community that values scholarship, citizenship and diversity," students at Glenelg are encouraged to excel academically and to maximize their potential. As a community of parents, students and teachers, they are working together to achieve common goals while providing the support and resources necessary for student success. Since its opening in 1958, Glenelg has been the center of a strong community where parental involvement and traditional values support and complement the school’s academic and extracurricular programs. A number of active parent organizations, PTSA, BSAP, Boosters, Band Boosters, Choir Parents, Drama “First Nighters,” and Black Student Family and Community Network sustain the school’s initiatives in meaningful ways.

A highlight of their academic program includes implementation of the NHS, World Language Honor Society and Dance Honor Society, AP Scholars Program, the GT Mentor Program, the Independent Research Program, and Engineering Programs, in which students and teachers work together to align school system, personal, and community goals to emphasize personal responsibility in a cooperative setting. They continue to expand their technology programs, thanks in large part to the tremendous support and involvement of the parents, PTSA, and the business community. The setting in Western Howard County is a blend of the best of both rural and suburban life, and the major growth of recent years has led to a steady increase in the student population.
