Bruce Teitelbaum, former chief of staff to Rudy Giuliani, has plans for the Long Island City site that the neighbors call Lake Vernon. Teitelbaum and a group of investors are likely to apply for a rezoning,Politico New York reports, in order to build a multimillion-square-foot mixed-use development at 44-02 Vernon Boulevard that would include a pedestrian bridge between Long Island City and Roosevelt Island, "envisioned as something akin to the High Line" (though, really, what isn't?). The bridge would connect to the under-development Cornell Tech campus on Roosevelt Island.
Politico reports that the current ownership of the site is hazy: the owner according to public records is Vernon Realty Holding, L.L.C., but an affiliate of the Durst Organization reportedly bought the note for $32 million after the property went into foreclosure, later making a stalled attempt to develop a large-scale project there.
