Spotlight on Kips Bay!
Kips Bay is a neighborhood, bordered on the north by Murray Hill, to the west by Madison Square, NoMad, or Rose Hill; on the south by Gramercy Park; and on the east by the East River. Named after Dutch settler Jacobus Henderson Kip, the neighborhood is most commonly known for the vintage mid-20th century high-rise apartment and condominium complexes, including I.M. Pei-designed Kips Bay Towers.
A great many of Kips Bay residents are medical students and professionals who attend or work at the NYU College of Dentistry and School of Medicine, Bellevue Hospital Center or the Manhattan VA Hospital which are all located in the neighborhood.
Kips Bay is a great and conveniently located neighborhood, with some of the most affordable housing options in the city. Residents enjoy a surprisingly quiet slice of Manhattan with a movie theater, Fairway Market, good food, plenty of shopping and services, as well as access to a series of lovely parks and playgrounds which pull families, runners and walkers onto its paths. Buses and trains are nearby, as well an easy walk to other neighborhoods.
Affordable housing is the name of the game in Kips Bay – co-ops and condominiums are plentiful, renovated and new construction alike. Duplexes, large studios and penthouse apartments on quiet streets are what you can find in this clean and family-oriented neighborhood.
