A Tribute to My Mom  and the Nasty Cancer that Took Her
By John Occhi, Hemet CA REALTOR

My mom would have been 73 years young today.  Some may think that is old, but my mom never did.  She drove around in a Mustang with a license plate frame that said "Recycled Teenager".

Unfortunately, just when she thought everything was going great in her life and enjoying it to the max - she got hit with the big fat ugly reality stick.

Mom had always been diligent about taking care of herself.  No, she never was an exercise freak and yes she did eat more fatty foods then she should have.  She did stop smoking many years earlier and never really drank very much.  All in all though, she took care of herself.

Mom always had advice for everyone she met.  I can hear her now, "If I were you..."  I never thought I'd miss THAT, but I do.  One thing she would always harp on to women everywhere was to check their breasts for lumps.  And I mean everywhere - including waitresses in restaurants.  Mom was never shy and you always knew where she was coming form - never a hidden agenda.

That's why when the texture under her breast started to change, she didn't think much about it.  Instead of being the smooth soft texture that is common for the female breast, the underside of hers was starting to feel a little textured - she later described it similar to an orange peel.

She never was certain how long she had this symptom.  It was at least 2 months, maybe more before she visited her doctor. That's when she was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer.  The only good news is she did not suffer long.  From the day she was diagnosed until the day she went home to be with Jesus, only 100 days passed by.

This is one of the fastest and most deadly cancers known to man (or woman in this case).  I would urge everyone to do a little research by entering the term in Google or your favorite search engine.  There is a video I saw last year that is still out there on the search engines - - search for InflammatoryBreastCancer.asx.

I pass this on in tribute to my mom, because if she were here now and had your attention, she would say, "If I were you I would learn everything I can about this rare but fatal cancer".

Did I mention how much I miss my mom and how much I loved her - despite our difference.

Now have a Blessed Day,

Hi John!

As a Br Ca survivor  myself, you are doing exactly what your mom would have wanted you to do- spreading the word, educating people.

Thank you for helping.  I'm sure your mom is proud!
