How to be a Coach even when it involves family.

The collaborative approach is when you need to work with a team to generate new solutions together, share ideas openly, find common ground or areas of shared understanding, develop better working relationships with the team, or build trust.

1.  Hold frequent collaborative sessions and informal team meetings to share ideas, solicit opinions, and generate new solutions or approaches for business problems. Encourage open discussion and sharing. If possible, ask people to sit at a round table to facilitate open discussion.

2.  Encourage the team to share their perspectives on workplace challenges and opportunities. Foster an atmosphere in which people feel comfortable learning from each other and offering ideas for improvement.

3.  Develop solutions together. Lead others in developing tactical solutions for business problems. Ask the team to come up with solutions to problems, rather than relying on you to supply them with all the answers.

4.  Allow people to feel that they have some choice in how they work. This will encourage them to feel more a part of the team and look forward to accomplishments.

5.  Allow people to try new things or implement new ways of working. Offer people the opportunity to make suggestions for improvements.

6.  Encourage everyone on the team to have a partner whom they can go to for routine questions and advice. This will allow them to rely on each other for updates and information.

I always tell everyone in the group, when someone gives you a suggestion, always say thank you and never the word "But," You will learn more by listening that responding!
