Just discovered that my good friend Jack's taken to blogging this year as well. Found something on there that not only answered some questions for me, but also got me transfixed. The tower at Sunset and Vine has sat pretty much empty and looking like hell for, probably, the better part of 2 years now (longer?). I remember it best as home of the rotating rooftop bar/restaurant, 360, which used to host the Tuesday night LA club staple "Beige".
It's been under heavy, heavy renovation for a while now, and I had no idea what they were doing to it structurally, architecturally, or even residentially (condos? apartments? hotel?). For a while it was shrouded top to bottom and covered with a bad ass Transformers ad. The shrouding was no doubt to contain all of the toxic stuff that got stirred up on taking the stucture down to the studs, so to speak.
Each side of this glass clad monstrosity features a large, rectangular white sort of blank canvas looking thing. I couldn't for the life of me figure out where they were going with this, though I think in the recesses of my mind, I knew and didn't want to face it. Yep...all for advertising. Whatever. I guess it'll just blend in with the rest of the advertising that I don't even notice anymore in LA.
There will be 59 residential units in the building and 7,000 sqft of commercial space.
