Crepe Myrtle Owasso, OKThe plant that you see in this picture is called a Crepe Myrtle.  They're a part of the Oklahoma landscape.  Often you find them in gardens, around homes and as decorative shrubbery along streets or neighborhood entrances.

I don't know if Crepe Myrtles are native to Oklahoma or not, but they've been here as long as I have.  Today, we have a variety of colors from white to light purple to pink and my favorite, firecracker red.

I've seen some Owasso Oklahoma Crepe Myrtles growing as tall as 15-20 feet.  And everyone really loves about these hearty shrubs is that you can literally cut them down to the ground and they'll grow right back.

The other thing we love about our Crepe Myrtles around the Owasso area is that the hotter the summer gets, the more they bloom.  And they don't require much water either, which is really awesome.

The Crepe Myrtle pictured here is located at 8259 North 72nd East Avenue in the Crossing at 86th Street.

For information about Crepe Myrtles this Southern Living site is an excellent resource.

Here's another resource that talks about the good and the bad of Crepe Myrtles.

Beautiful and  sturdy flowering shrubs! It seems to be the Owasso, Oklahoma, equivalent to the ubiquitous bougainvillia in AZ.

We have Crepe Myrtle here in Maryland too.  I love them, they are very pretty.  Thanks for sharing.

We have quite a number of Crepe Myrtles here in the Greater Sacramento region as well.  I'm especially fond of the lavendar or light purple ones.
