PrinceWilliam County, Virginia – A County being Revitalized

Whether you just moved her or have lived here, I am sure you have noticed some major changes recently and some over time. I have lived here for the past 16 years. The military brought us here, and it’s been an interesting and exciting transition.

What I love most about the area, are the distance to other areas like D.C.., Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax County or going southbound to Stafford and Fredericksburg. Better yet, if you like the mountains and vineyards, want to rent a cabin, it is only about 1 to 2 hours West of us here inWoodbridge. Looking for a beach vacation, just travel 2-3 hours East and youare there.

This area has so much to offer, whether you stay locally or want to venture out.  From Seafood Restaurants, Farmers Markets, State Parks with historic elements, Museums, Waterfront fun, Concerts, Camping, Boating, Golfying, too much too list. You want it, you got it! There are plans for complete bicycle routes and a board walk around Neabsco Leesylvania State Park.

Though we all get caught up in work and traffic, and may find ourselves complaining about this and that, including construction, you may be surprised how much “Good” is also going around in our County.

These highlights and more information can be found at

  • The Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently accepted, budgeted and appropriated a $100,000 donation to replace outdated kitchen equipment and cabinets at the Hilda Barg Homeless Prevention Center. The donation came from the Jean Baird Michael Revocable Trust.
  • Farmers Markets are very popular during the summer in Prince William County. Local merchants provide fresh produce also provide food for the most needy in our community. Each week volunteers  collect 3,000 – 4,000 pounds of produce at the Dale City and Manassas Farmers Market, which is delivered to the SERVE and ACTS shelter and the Boys and Girls Clubs in Manassas and Dumfries.  The food is used to feed families in the sheltersand distributed to local food banks.
  • In a pilot program to determine whether goats can effectively clean up overgrown properties, the Prince William County Department of Public Works recently hired a herd of goats. Charlotte Del Duca of Scapegoats, LLC recently turned her little herd of goats out on the property so they could eat vines, high-high grass, ground covering weeds in the yard.
  • The PGA Tour came to Prince William County to participate in the  National golf tournament, hosted by the Tiger Woods Foundation.  Proceeds from the tournament support the Foundation, whose learning centers promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education for students ingrades five through 12. Prince William County is such a great location for the tournament, and pays tribute to military families.
  • Future Neabsco Creek Boardwalk. Building a boardwalk over Neabsco Creek will connect countless historical and educational facilities, places of commerce and environmental resources in Woodbridge, including: Rippon Historic Lodge, Rippon Landing Park, Neabsco Eagles Park, and the Julie Metz Wetlands Preserve. It will connect Freedom High School, Mary G. Porter Traditional School and Leesylvania Elementary School to boardwalk recreation and educational facilities to teach students about science, the environment, marine life, and nearby ecosystems. The boardwalk will also be a great place for families to spend quality time outdoors and to connect with their community.

These are just a few highlights of good things around the area. Woodbridge has new businesses opening up, creating jobs, schools have improved, it transitioned to a trendy place like Reston with its new Stonebridge Town Center. Woodbridge is up and coming.  I am proud to live here!  If you are considering Prince William County, Woodbridge, Manassas, as your place for your family, give me a call.  I would love to share some more on our localhousing communities.
