Realtors - Take Inventory of Your Busines

It's hard to believe that it's back to school time already.  Although Summer is wonderful and carefree, there is something about the structure that school brings that makes me work smarter and more efficiently.  As we prepare to get your little ones (or big ones) off to school we often say, "have a great year!"  It is now your turn to take some time to think about your real estate business and what you want to work on during the upcoming year so that you too have a "great year!"

Get Organized

Do you have files and paper everywhere?  Sure you know where everything is, but what if someone else had to look through your desk to find some information...could they find it?  Now is the time for a fresh start.  Pull out that box of file folders you bought, along with that label maker and start making some sense out of the many papers in your life.  Papers you don't put in a folder, put in the trash.  Your new mantra is, "everything in its' place".

Put Systems In Place

How do you handle new leads?  What about your Buyer Presentation and your Listing Presentation?  Everything in your business should be systematized.  Not only does it help you comply with Fair Housing laws, but it helps free your mind of the, "what did I forget" thought we all experience.  When you have written systems in place you know that you haven't forgotten anything.  Systems also help prepare you to grow your real estate business and when the time comes for you to hire a buyer's agent or assistant, they can get up and running in a shorter period of time...allowing you to be the rainmaker.

Review How You Work

It's so easy to do what you've always done, but we all need to take some time to look at our business practices to see if we are being the best real estate agent we can be.  Even if you think you have the best business practices on the planet, there is always room for improvement.  What can you tweak?   It can be something as basic as how you answer your phone, when you respond to emails or how you qualify leads.  Review every aspect of your business to see how you can help your clients have a better home buying and home selling experience.

Review Your Goals

We are rapidly approaching the last quarter of the year.  Are you on track to reach your volume or income goals?  If not, what do you need to do in order to reach those goals?  It's never too late to make a new and improved plan for success.  If you have already exceeded your goals, take a look at what business came in that was completely unexpected.  If that isn't the case, review your numbers to determine why you set your goals so low.  To continue pushing yourself, set a goal for fourth quarter and push yourself to reach it.

How Are You Spending Your Time?

Your time is valuable and you cannot afford to waste it.  Time robbers are everywhere.  For me, Pinterest is the biggest time robber so I make a point of staying away from it when I have a full "To Do" list.  Take a look at what you do in any given day and see how you can tighten up your schedule.  It may be that you need to do a better job of time blocking or something as simple as limiting yourself to only 30 minutes of social media in the morning and in the evenings.  We all waste time, but when we are wasting time, we aren't making money.

Do Your Past Clients Remember You?

Without dedicated marketing efforts it is extremely easy to let past clients fall though the cracks.  Take the time to call your favorite clients and ask them out for a cup of coffee or lunch.  They will be happy to hear from you and you may even get a lead out of it.  The important thing is to keep your name top of mind.  It's not that people didn't enjoy working with you, it's that they got busy and didn't think about you when their colleague announced they were starting the home buying process.  Put together a marketing schedule that you can easily implement so you stay in touch.  You have to be able to implement it easily otherwise you won't do it.  Having a marketing plan is critical if you plan on having a real estate business built on referrals.
