Exploring Catalina Island California 

 

Whether you are from California or not, exploring Catalina Island is a treat for everyone. It's like a vacation in its self when arriving and staying on this amazing island located in the Pacific Ocean. Traveling in by ferry is a great options and takes 1 hour.

Being a California resident has it's perks because when your birthday arrives, on the same day you can ride the ferry round-trip for FREE. Just have your ID and reserve a ticket ahead of time. And the freebies do not stop there! You will also receive a ribbon indicating its your birthday and at select locations on the island give you free gear and food help you along with your exploration.

There are three main ports you could choose from, "Two Harbor, Avalon or Long Point." Once you arrive, there is a ton to do. You can go snorkeling, scuba-diving, swimming, kayaking, enjoy shopping and great eateries, hike, relaxing at the spa, bike, rent golf carts and so much more

Catalina is such a gem. If you take the ferry and want to be sure you don’t get sea sick, take the pills (ask your doctor or pharmacist) and stay above deck looking out at the horizon. Going below deck makes it worse.

Mr. Murty and I took advantage of the birthday deal one year on my birthday.  It was a fun day.  We had to laugh because a kid approached Mr. Murty on the beach and basically called him a pasty white guy.

Laura - Catalina Island is a fun place to stay for a quick weekend getaway. Taking the ferry is the only way to go.

I haven't been to Catalina since the mid 1980s.  It truly is one of the delightful places on the planet.  I need to return one day soon.  When I went, it was by helicoptor taken near the Queen Mary!
