The House of the Future

Growing up just 7 minutes from Disneyland I went as often as I could. And as soon as I turned 18 I went to work there.

In 1957 Disneyland opened the “House of the Future.” It forecast that we would use microwaves, have adjustable lighting and flat screen TV’s. That part came true but we don’t live in houses made of plastic, just yet J

The House of the Future only lasted ten years, until 1967. Today a small part of the foundation serves as a planter at Pixie Hollow.

David - Wow, that is a very open-ended question. Considering that there have not really been that many changes to our homes in the last 50 years, I would say that not much will change with the structure itself. Most of the changes are coming by way of energy efficiency and all the gadgets.

Surely there is a better way to build houses than sticks and bricks. But you are right, it hasn't happened yet.
