Great things that Happened Today

Today is my 9th wedding Anniversary. I am married to an amazing man so it only make sense that I began my day feeling pretty darn happy and feeling really good. The card he gave me... well, who knew a redneck from Innisfail could be so romantic!

The phone rang as I was leaving the house for my morning appointment and it was my instructor from University. She'called me last spring to sit on a panel to facilitate a question and answer period with her new students who were enrolled in her design course. I enjoyed this experience immensely and she called me again today to ask me to sit on the panel again. I adore this instructor - she is very knowledgeable and experienced in the world of residential and commercial design, and she was one of my favourite instructors. To have her professional respect means so much to me, and I am thrilled she sees my profession (as a stager and decorator) to be worthy of contributing to the advancement of the industry.

The afternoon took me to a flooring centre in Edmonton where I met with a client I have worked with off and on for 3 years. She is finally ready to sell. She is so far ahead of the game in terms of upgrading her house so it can compete strongly on this crazy market, so she is replacing her flooring - yes, the whole 3200 square foot house including the basement - to make sure she is positioned competitively to create a great first impression when that sign goes in the ground. Over the years we have done paint, window treatments and organizing, and now she is ready to ramp it up a bit and make sure her house shines.

When she first contacted me to help with staging, she said "we know what we like but is it the right choice for selling? We need you to tell us what other people like - we're selling, not staying."

But the beauty is I get to stage this lovely gem of an acreage on the Yellowhead between Stony Plain and Spruce Grove, plus I get the pleasure of staging her house in Edson. They are selling both houses, downsizing and moving to Edmonton so they can simplify and take off for Mexico whenever their hearts desire.

Tonight I have another staging appointment with my partner, Shelley Sadownyk, Organizing Queen and fun lady all 'round. Can a day be so perfect!? And then I get to cuddle up with my son and watch a movie because tomorrow he gets to sleep in (he has the day off school) and I'm taking him to the Dog Show.

AND!!! My partner told me that she recently had a conversation with our favourite local Realtor and he was saying that Staging is really best way for a property to compete on this market. People have so many houses to choose from that if they don't like the house immediately, they have 30 others on their list they want to see, and they most likely will not come back for a second look. Sellers have one chance, and one chance only to grab that buyers attention. SO STAGE IT!!

Here's hoping you had as great a day as I had! Cheers!

Hope you had a great anniversary!   I think the greatest thing about that post is how much gratitude was in it.  I could feel your happiness. Contagious!
