Long Reach High School serves an economically and culturally diverse population from a wide variety of highly supportive and involved communities, including the planned community of Columbia. It is a widely held belief that training people to enter the skilled work force is essentially the same as the education required for college entry. As a result, LRHS offers special programs that include, but are not limited to, Advanced Placement programs, Independent Research and Mentor programs, Project Lead the Way, Special Education and English Language Learner programs. In addition to their special programs they offer a comprehensive high school program that includes a variety of core courses and electives that prepares students for college, the business world and a wide selection of technological fields.

The school’s staff is known for its dedication, caring attitude, effectiveness, and collaborative nature. They welcome and encourage the community members to become involved in their school programs and activities, of which they are truly proud.

Long Reach uses a 7-credit, year-long semester scheduling model in which classes are approximately 50 minutes long. Period 4 is 110 minutes long and alternates between A and B day, allowing students to earn 7 credits in a 6-period day.
