You'll Wish That Summer Could Always Be Here

By

We've got plenty of time left to enjoy balmy nights and beautiful sunny days. The one regret we won't have is cutting our lawns once a week. Growing up we had neighbors that with a little mathematical ingenuity developed an automatic grass cutting system which worked well for the sprawl of suburbia. You need some rope and a self -propelled lawner to make it happen. Each revolution around the center stake, which connected to the mower via the rope, would cut one reel's worth of lawn upon each pass. You might have 5 or 6 of these circles laid out on your lot and only have to check on the lawnmower's position once in a while. Like when the commercial breaks happen during the game.

In today's World there's probably an ordinance against unattended mowing although I never remember seeing the mower break free of its bonds and terrorize the neighborhood. I do recall watching in wonder as it dutifully did its job round and round the yard. Once you see it going on for more than a minute the intrigue is over. If it's something that you wish to try I recommend overlapping the circles and cutting in opposite directions every othe cut. It will put some furrows in the lawn if you're not careful. I am surprised that there's no Roomba outdoor version put into service yet. Naybe I just haven't read about it!

Let's get back to those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days of Summer by Nat King Cole. Watch the video below for another way to make that chore of mowing the lawn a little less strenuous. Compliments and warm thoughts while we enjoy the final days of the good old Summertime,

When your lawnmower has its own lawnmower,

You Know You've Arrived!

Troy, this one looks like it would be a little than a therapy session every week. I'd be at the masseuse afterward if it was me.

Unbelievable Gabe, that little Husqvarna unit seems to be the choice model. I can see that some more reading will be required, thanks for the link, and again, unbelievable. Guess I won't have to get up off of the sofa after all.

Too much work for me, Kevin...it is pretty bizarre to watch but I imagine that automatic mowers that are layed out on a program based upon your lot will be here in the next decade...those lawn mowing services better watch out!

With camera/video phones at the ready almost nothing gets the chance to slip by unrecorded these days Toni.

Kevin, someone could get very rich developing a Roomba for cutting grass.  I know I'd buy one!  Sounds even better than Rent-a-Goat!

There's a slew of them already out there Patricia. I didn't realize it until Gabe Sanders sent me the link in his comment above. Then tonight I saw an ad for a show which promoted another entry into the field although I didn't have the opportunity to watch it. They need some more scrutiny that's for sure!

Endre, the liklihood of not seeing some landscape activity would be a blessing. They're always, mowing, irrigating, whacking, blowing, pruning or trimming something somewhere. You really need to get a boat and get out on the water!

Marco, at one time we had almost 7 acres and with it a 7 gang mower behind a tractor to keep it all under control. I used to love hearing those reels sing when the blades were set just right.

I'm ready for the lawn mowing to be over. I just had my mower blade sharpened, too. Fall is upon us here in Western Colorado. The yellow aspens are beautiful and before we know it, there will be snow. For now I will enjoy the few remaining days of summer...even if I have to cut the grass.

Debbie, so sorry for the delayed response, you must have ninja in your blood. On the bright side if the grass must be cut it'll be smooth as silk with that blade refreshed.

Evelyn, the grass just keeps growing so it offers plenty of time to derive viable  solutions. Sometimes good and sometimes not so much.

Beautiful green grass lawn. Most of our SoCal lawns are brown, sun burned everything.
