What Does "Sharrows" Mean?

Bicycle Master Plan

On roadways throughout the City of Gaithersburg, motorists might notice graphic images of bicycles with two chevron arrows above them. These lane markings, or "sharrows," do not indicate a dedicated biking lane; rather, they alert motorists and bicyclists to the fact that the cyclists may be sharing the full driving lane. Along with the sharrows, these roadways have signs indicating that "Bikes May Use Full Lane." Cyclists are also accommodated on roads with dedicated bike lanes and on multiuse paths with widths generally greater than eight feet. Learn more about Gaithersburg's Bicycle Master Plan here

This is a City of Gaithersburg announcement.
