Did You Know Jackfruit Can Grow Up To 100 lbs?

Did you know that jackfruit can grow up to 100 lbs? That is a lot of jackfruit. I was tempted to purchase one at the farmer's market this weekend but decided against it.

I prefer our Florida mangoes and pineapple to jackfruit. The nice thing about the farmer's market is that the asian population of our county comes there to sell their fruit and veggies and the assortment is always fantastic! So many things that you have to find small neighborhood stores to otherwise purchase since the 'masses' don't buy it, so the large supermarket chains don't carry a large assortment.

Even something as simple as dragonfruit can be difficult to find in a regular supermarket. That is why we frequent the farmer's market down at Wagon Wheel.

Put me in the camp of never having heard of them. Do the farmers’ market vendors let you try samples?

Good morning Barbara-Jo. Jack fruit is not something we see in the Northeast very often, have never tasted it either. Will have to add it to my list.

Make it a great week!

Now I wish I had taken a photo of the one I saw cut open at our Farmer's Market. But wait - we are on the web - right? Let me look...

Turns out it is a fruit from a tree - cousin of the mulberry or breadfruit. Uses for the tree itself around the world include furniture and instruments even clothing dye for Buddhist monks from the heartwood.

Apparently, in India, in the Tamilnadu State, the mammoth fruit can grow to be 100 kilograms which is more like 220 pounds!

So, my AR friend Barbara-Jo, instead of finishing my own post --- I ricocheted off into research about yours! Now, back to mine - Lynn
