The Metrotex Association of Realtors is among the top five Realtor association in the United States.
It has an annual budgeted income of nearly $9 million and serves nearly 15,000 members.
That's a lot of money and authority to give to a group of professionals who, in the main, run the Association's business with very little direction from its employers, i.e., the 15,000 dues paying members.
For the past 45 years, I've been self-employed and my income solely came from businesses I owned. At one time, I had about 600 people working for me.
Additionally, I've served on operating boards (called vestries) of several Episcopal Churches, a savings association, several banks, and any number of non-profits.
And I've been a financial strategist and coach for private clients for nearly fifty years. WEB
And in my early life I was the comptroller of a medium-size national bank. Part of my job there was to make certain employees and officers weren't dipping into the till. And wouldn't you know, I caught a couple.
I wondered how well the Metrotex Association of Realtors was managed and run. After all, without members requesting it, the Association doesn't provide those nearly 15,000 members with budgets and financials. I didn't get them either, so how was I to know?
When this calendar year was in the process of rolling around, I volunteered to be a member of the budget and financial committee. They chose me.
We met about six times, if memory serves me, and the meetings provided voluminous information, from reports from the financial firm that handles the Association's investments, to reports from the Association management who are responsible for the operations.
I was very impressed with the knowledge AND the education and ability of those who serve us.
So I left concluding that all was well in River City. Here are the people responsible for making that so.
This is smart, deep voiced Rich Thomas. He's the CEO
And here's the "Big Brain" Assistant Executive Officer, Ginny Haralson, CPA
And there's Art Blanck, the Accounting Director, who massages the numbers.
And the great Ann Roberts, the Senior Accountant who kept us informed and "going"
