By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Realty 179530

Matthews Alive Festival 2015If you're looking for a fun event during Labor Day Weekend, why not check out the Matthews Alive Festival 2015You'll not only have fun, you'll have an opportunity to help the Town of Matthews contribute to Matthews area non-profit organizations. It's worth pointing out that 100% of the proceeds from the festival go to local non-profits. And in fact, the "motto" of this festival is "good times funding good works."

A true Labor Day Weekend tradition in the Charlotte metro area, this is the 23rd year of the Matthews Alive Festival and it's going stronger than ever. The 2014 Matthews Alive Festival raised almost $117,000 for 30+ local non-profits. Obviously, the goal this year would be to raise even more money. In the past 22 years, more than $1.2 million has been contributed to the local community by the town of Matthews from funds raised by this festival.

The Matthews Alive Festival expects to host some 150,000 visitors over this Labor Day Weekend. What can these festival visitors expect to find to do at the festival? For starters:

  • 150+ arts and crafts vendors
  • 25+ food vendors
  • Labor Day Parade (one of the largest in the Southeast)
  • Quilt, basket, woodworker shows
  • Juried gallery display of artwork by local artists
  • Tons of games and ride for kids and adults alike
  • Music shows, dance presentations, juggling and magic shows
  • 5K Race (sponsored by the Matthews Kiwanis Club)

When: September 4th through September 7th

Festival Hours:  Friday - 6pm - 10pm
                               Saturday - 9am - 9pm
                               Sunday - 12pm - 9pm
                               Monday - 9am - 5pm

Hi Nina Hollander , these art festival events are so entertaining and these artists who live or die ( at least some of them) on their sales . Most of these festivals give homeowners a way to buy and support the talents of those that are gifted. One idea that you could do is to highlight a couple of artists that you like and feature them here in the Rain. A few photos and a background story and they would be so appreciative. I have just started to embrace this idea and I hope that I can add something wonderful to the Internet.

PS, Nina Hollander , that you so much for your wonderful comment on Pat's post about Boomers and the Millennials. That was so nice of you.

William Johnson ~ you're so welcome, William. I wasn't saying that to be nice. I was saying it because what you said really struck a cord in its fundamentail truthfulness. I appreciate your recommendation to feature some of these local artists... I have to admit to being guilty of always forgetting to take photos! (And that even though I have a phone with me tht takes good photos!)

Kathy Streib ~ good morning, Kathy. Somehow, I think Labor Day parades fell out of favor a long time ago because so many people would go away for the last long weekend of the summer. But with 150,000 people expected at Matthews Alive, a parade is worth having.

Joan Cox ~ good morning, Joan. Lots of people go away for this weekend, but many actually stay in town, so this is a great event for those who don't travel out of town.

Ed Silva ~ good morning, Ed. Attracting 150,000 people is a big deal for a town that barely has 30,000 residents!

Yesterday Nina, I met up with my contractor (in the liberal sense) to do this major kitchen renovation for a property. I asked him to start this weekend as he had his marching orders.  He says... "but it's labor weekend?" and I said... "exactly".

It sounds like a great way to spend the weekend.  I hope you raise a lot of money for good causes.  The people in this country are good people and are always willing to support good causes.

Gene Riemenschneider ~ hi, Gene. Having lived in several countries overseas, I can personally attest to the fact that there is no other place like the USA where neighbors and communities really take care of their own.
