Palos Verdes Junior Ranger Program fall session is being offered by the City of Rancho Palos Verdes and the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority.  Palos Verdes homes owners can enroll their children from 7 to 12 years of age so they can learn more about the outdoors and explore this beautiful Peninsula.  The program will teach them about our local trails, basic trail etiquette, safety practices, our wildlife and outdoor preparedness.

Orientation for the Junior Ranger Program is September 5th and September 12th, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Ladera Linda Community Center, located at 32201 Forrestal Drive, Rancho Palos Verdes.   Children must attend one of these two sessions with their parents in order to participate in the program.  The program will run through December with sessions including night hikes to learn about nocturnal animals that live in the preserve, a mock camp out where they can find clues about wildlife living in our hills and neighborhoods, visit the native plant garden and learn about local Native Americans that once lived in Palos Verdes, fire ecology where participants can try on real fire gear and learn about wildfires, and geology of the Palos Verdes land slide history and finally graduation.  If your child has completed a minimum of three sessions plus the introduction class, they will be recognized at the graduation ceremony.  Participants who have fulfilled partial requirements of two sessions or less are eligible to continue where they left off in the next program series.  This program is free for all participants.

It is recommended that you pre-register for the program as soon as possible since enrollment is limited.  To register contact the Rancho Palos Verdes Recreation Office at (310) 544-5260, or go to www.rpvca.gov.
