Safe Driving Tips for this Labor Day Weekend 2015
Every Holiday long weekend find the roads in Katy TX and all across this great country are very crowded with numerous accidents occurring including way too many fatalities. The National Safety Council issues fatality estimates for these holiday periods to draw attention to the fact that it is very dangerous to be on the road.
Here are a few tips for safe driving this weekend:
Establish and enforce a driver's no distraction zone where the driver has no access to cell phones, GPS devices, radio controls, video equipment and computers/tablets. Enforce no texting, no cell calls, no fixing makeup, no drinking or eating while driving by the driver. Pets should not sit in the driver’s lap. I know that is very mean!
Allow more than enough travel time to get to your destination and don't speed but in Texas/California and some other states keep up with the flow traffic or else you become a serious hazard.
Don't drink and drive as even small amounts of beer, wine and hard liquor can impair reflexes. If you do drink for some unknown reason have a alternate driver ready to take over for you.
Use seat belts for all the passengers and make sure even the children and family pets are wearing seat belts of some nature.
Try driving in defensive and safe manner especially if bad weather shows up. Go with the flow of traffic. Here in Texas being a defensive driver maybe asking for trouble but I think you understand what I mean. Don’t be an aggressive driver.
Check out your car before leaving looking for potential problems such tires, fluids, brakes, warning lights, etc. Don't go on long trips if the vehicle has issues but instead head to a mechanic assuming they are open for business. Make sure your car is filled with gas.
Watch out for other cars who are pulling a trailer or boat or something large as many times these vehicles swerve unexpectedly due to wind, other weather issues, towing too much weight or bad driving.
Have fun this last weekend of the summer season but be SAFE!
