"A G8 Labor Day 2 U & Urs"

 

That's a text message I received today.  What the heck?

 

A Gate Labor Day to You & Yours?  A Great Labor Day to You & Yours?  

 

I didn't recognize the phone number, but the area code is the same as messages I receive from someone saying they have a cash buyer who wants to buy my listings.  I always delete those texts.

 

Was the text a clumsy attempt at good will marketing by wishing me and mine a "G8 Labor Day"?  The texter didn't even identify him or herself or the company.  

 

If I wrote like that, I wouldn't identify myself, either.

Jill - I hate to say it, but that is just the way a lot of younger people communicate, and they think it's cute and fun. I have a hard time with this personally, and would never do it, especially to people I didn't even know.

I don't stupid abbreviate either.  I agree that it's totally unprofessional.  I won't even do it in the most casual of texts Tammy Lankford.

People who think it's cute or fun to text that way are just so wrong Troy Erickson.  They think it's okay because people know what they mean.  What they fail to realize is that people also think they're stupid.

Besides an open house tomorrow, I'm hoping to make this a mostly labor-less Labor Day.  Besides seeing KC and the Sunshine Band at Lake Mission Viejo this weekend, I'd love to spend the rest of the weekend in the garden.  I know it sounds like work, but I like it.

My sister and I used to listen to AM radio and sing Shake your Booty and other hits from the time into our hair brushes when we were in the bathroom getting ready for school in the morning.

Jill, I absolutely hate anything that is abbreviated in text and simply will not go there. As for that sort of text being fruitful...I really wonder if they generate any business at all other than for Ma Bell?

Yeah, I'm not a fan of most text shortcuts either, Nick T Pappas.

It seems incredibly unlikely to me, too that any business would be generated by such messages, especially ones so poorly written.  As you mentioned, the phone companies are probably the only ones to benefit.
