I want to wish everyone a great Labor Day Weekend! Here are some interesting facts about Labor Day you may not have known!

 

1. The First Celebrated Labor Day was on Tuesday September 5, 1882 in New York City and was planned by the Central Labor Union.

3. Oregon was the first state to celebrate Labor Day as a legal Holiday in 1887.

 

4. Americans worked 12 hour days, 7 days a week during the 19th century!

Chris all the census data I can find about hours worked in a typical week supports a 70 hour work week in the 19th century, but nothing supporting 84 hours.
