Wickford RI Reboot? Can A Developer Hold True to History

Wickford RI elementary school reboot

Wickford RI is a historic village within North Kingstown and is cherished and loved by Rhode Islanders and beyond.  For years the vacant Wickford elementary school has been vacant with proposal after proposal by developers to reboot this property for multi-use.  Nothing has panned out before due to the town council, finances, etc.

Now another developer, Kinnecom, has stepped forward with a $40 million development plan to present to the town for this property.  The vision is to make it into an art hotel and conference center and adding a culinary school and condo units too.  Good use of a Wickford RI property that has been vacant for far too long one hopes.

Is this a chance for Wickford RI to reboot and does it depend upon the sewers coming down that way?  Lots of unanswered questions for voters here who want answers.  A presentation to the community is set for September 15 at 5 p.m. at the Beechwood Community Center by the developer.  If you have interest and questions be there to ask!

That seems like a lot of development on a septic field - can't wait to hear how it turns out - that looks like a wonderful project.

Hi Ginny.  Without town sewerage development is seriously curtailed.  Good luck.

Conrad Allen it must be dependent on the sewer extension project...this is all a flood zone area but great potential...thanks Roger & Lise!

Hi Ginny Gorman Old Schools and their large yards are ripe for development. Sounds like a great idea, a least the school will be used again, empty buildings have no life in them.

Cheers, have a fun and successful day!

Ginny, hopefully this developer can make this happen - sure would be better than a vacant school!

Good morning Ginny. Zoning, rules and regulation will play a big part in what can and cannot be done, especially when it comes to keeping the integrity of the property.
