The Ups and Downs of a Real Estate Career

The Ups and Downs of a Real Estate Career

Yesterday I was down a bit:  Challenges with a short sale and representing the most wonderful 87 year old man, finding out some awesome prospects of mine will no longer be relocating to Tucson, getting the news another closing got pushed out 6 more weeks....I was thinking of how emotional my career can be.

hmmmmSimultaneously, I was texting with a new member of my office, who was getting a bit discouraged at how much effort was resulting in so little...and making the mistake of comparing himself to his classmates and peers.

I told him not to compare -- most of my classmates are no longer real estate agents

I've enjoyed working with him and getting to know him these past two months or so, as there's nothing like the fresh excitement of a newbie to stir up your own passion and drive.

During our texting, I mentioned that it gets to me that bad news often seems to come in bunches, but I don't get BUNCHES of great news.

So is that perspective...or pouting....or real life.

At the end of the work day yesterday, I opened an email thinking it was another sales letter, only to find out some really big news    ta da!regarding my career and my standing in Tucson Real Estate.  I'd share it here, but I've been told it's confidential until the end of the month.

Wow - talk about a SHOT of Adrenalin.

So that's really real estate.  We go up, we go down, we have challenges, we have disappointments...but we love our career path...or we quit.

I'm not a quitter, are you?

It's a new day.

My first year, I had 4 sales fall through one right after another. I almost quit and told myself to just keep moving. That was in 06-07. Still ups and downs but the downs are as low as you can go, then you have togo up.

They say things come in 3's... and I wonder. Is it only the unpleasant things, or is it just that we take the good things for granted?

After 22 years in the business I can tell you I've had my share of ups and downs ... but unquestionably the ups outweigh the downs. In fact the downs just keep me sharp and on my game.  Great Post!  Never Give Up!

Real estate us not for the faint of heart.  It takes a positive attitude, hard work, dedication, and a joy of helping others satisfy their real estate needs.

If it were easy everyone would be doing it.  The key is sometimes its easy and good, sometimes its hard and good.  The good I speak of here is attitude.  Attitude is everything!

I can relate!  The "downers" can really bring me down as I take this business very personally. But the "uppers"  have brought me much success and such great clients.

It amazes me that most people think we are in an easy business and they are anxious to get their Real Estate License. With each closed transaction, we learn and grow stronger. At least we never get bored!

Cara Marcelle Mancuso if someone can survive the biggest depression of 2007-2010, they know 'down' is over now!

We can avoid ups and down if we are consistent in lead generation.

Cara Marcelle Mancuso Great post and nice to see a fellow Arizonan here! Having entered this business when there were predominately short sales and bank-owned properties, I had a crash course on the "downs" side of the business, believe me!  And while just this past week I had two different transactions not close escrow as scheduled, after whining about it a bit I realized at least I have the transactions in the first place.  It is all about a positive attitude and perspective, with guts and determination thrown in the mix.  As we all well know through experience, this industry it isn't as easy as it looks!

Never EVER a quitter.  I love your attitude.  This career, when done full time and is your only source of income, is scary at times.  It sounds to me like you have the perfect tone for it.  Best of luck and congrats on whatever it is!

Thanks for posting this, Cara.  I work with my daughter Britt, and recently we've had a series of unfortuate events with buyers & escrow.  Many of these were out of our control, but it didn't make it easier to handle.  But as usual, it's cyclical, and this past week we've had some unexpected great things happen in our business.  And to end the week on an exceptional note, Britt got engaged!  Now they are going to start house shopping!  ;)
