Women's Fashions of Long Ago are Now Costumes

I couldn't tell you what century these women's costumes are from but they certainly brightened the day at the San Diego Bay Tall Ship Festival.

When we think back to the Spanish Explorers that claimed the land out here in the West for Spain, I sort of imagined that the colors of the day were dark and drab. Perhaps I am wrong about that and that a the women and their fashions made at some locations were festive in color. Maybe you have more knowledge on this than I but we can all enjoy the colorful costumes these women are displaying whether exact representations or not.

William - We were just in San Diego a couple of weeks ago and we visited Seaport Village. We had a great time, and enjoyed watching the boats and ships go by.

I too think of them wearing drab colors and had read that colorful fabrics were very expensive and only the wealthy could afford the rich dyes.

Good Thursday morning William. I find it very interesting to see how the styles change through the years. I'm sure the rich colors were only for the wealthy.

William, love the colors!  I'm trying to figure out if that orange is hair or hat.
