Places to Hike and Walk in Carlsbad CA
Carlsbad’s year-round great weather (well, most of the time) offers plenty of opportunity to take walks or go hiking.
For those who prefer the sand, and a bit of exercise, we have 7 miles of beach to walk on.
And near Carlsbad Village you can walk along the “boardwalk” between the street and the beach to enjoy the views.
There are abundant trails throughout Carlsbad in the open space, by the lagoons (my very favorite is the walk along the Batiquitos Lagoon Trail in South Carlsbad/Aviara), and in master planned communities (e.g., Bressi Ranch), about 50 miles of them!
The Hosp Grove (photo at left) along Jefferson, Marron and Monroe (just south of the mall and the 78) is a beautiful, hilly area filled with Eucalyptus trees with a number of trails, some steeper than others.
The walk around Lake Calavera and then a hike up Mount Calavera (at right) with 360 degree views in the Calavera Hills area of northeast Carlsbad, is a moderate to difficult walk but well worth it, with connections to other trails.
Carlsbad has a terrific online trail map that provides more information about all the trails in the city, with printable maps.
And for some other beautiful places to hike nearby but outside Carlsbad:
Visit Torrey Pines State Reserve in La Jolla
Hiking in Elfin Forest in Escondido near San Elijo Hills, San Marcos
