Can you believe that it has already been 14 years since the attack on the Twin Towers? It seems like it happened yesterday. That could be because we are still feeling the effects of the events that took place on 9/11 today. To honor those we lost, Westfield hosts a September 11th memorial tonight.
Westfield Hosts September 11th Memorial
Beginning at 6:30pm tonight, the Town of Westfield will be hosting a public service at the Sept 11th Memorial Site on North Ave and Broad St. The schedule of events includes a Pledge of Allegiance, words from Mayor Andrew Skibitsky and prayers. A moment of silence will be observed to honor those that perished. A ceremonial wreath will be presented at the site while Taps is played in the background. If you feel the need to mark this occasion with others in a public forum, make plans to come to the service tonight.
Westfield isn't the only one marking this special day with a public ceremony. Visit Cranford WTC Park (Springfield and North Union Ave) at 7pm tonight. The park is located across from the municipal building.
Scotchfield Township is hosting their own ceremony at 6pm this evening. The public is invited to attend at the Alan Augustine Park Village Green located right next to town hall. The service will honor the men, women and children who died that day as well as the first responders who gave their lives rescuing others on 9/11.
While Westfield hosts September 11th Memorial services tonight, Jersey City will be honoring 9/11 tomorrow. The Empty Sky memorial at Liberty Park sets the stage for Jersey City's own service at 1pm. The public is welcome to attend.
