Hi Tai,I have known you for the majority of my life and if asked to describe you, I'd say you were extremely intelligent, driven and from a very large family. The last point is not about you per se, but I'm sure it shapes much of who you are as a person.Family.People in living families don't turn their back on family members. They love them, they support them, and sometimes they make the difficult decisions their loved one cannot. You and Amira are wonderful parents - I doubt this surprises anyone. You were raised to know the value of having your family in your corner, and right now you're in Creed's.Know that many of us, from the shadows, are in yours and Amira's through prayer, love and light. When the time comes, that love will envelop you.Thank you for loving your son, unconditionally. I would expect nothing less.

Beautiful post and thank you for sharing such a personal story with grace and love. Creed is loved and that experience can never be diminished. May the memories you have now of his heart beat, kicking and movements bring more comfort than anguish. God bless you for making the hard choice and inspite of your anguish you protect others when they congratulate you on the pending birth instead of telling them he will be short lived. Blessing to you and your famiy. May God hold him and embrace the family with love and mercy.

I do not know you, or your wife, but I've been touched by your story. My first pregnancy I was 18, and excited and scared to take on this new role in life. I got up the day of my first ultrasound, excited to see my baby for the first time. My (now) husband and I got ready, and went to the appointment together. As I laid on the table, and watched the technician find my baby, I had tears in my eyes. And then I saw him.In that moment I knew I was on this earth the be that little baby's mom. And nothing was going to stop me from that.Fast forward 15 minutes, and the technician told us something was wrong with our baby. Our perfect miracle was somehow imperfect in her eyes. I remember staring at her in disbelief.. Was she looking at the some images I was seeing? She refused to get a doctor, but instead told me and my husband, that this baby has a very serious heart defect, one so significant that I may not carry to term. She also informed us that our child had a "halo" around his head, and that meant, without a doubt, that not only did this baby have a heart defect, but if I managed to carry him to full term he would be born with Down's syndrome. At 18 and 20, the last thing you want to hear is your child is going to be a "burden" to you, and you are better off terminating the pregnancy now, instead of having a "broken" baby, or one that may not even live.We instantly made the decision to keep this child, and we prayed. We prayed for miracles, answers, and most of all we prayed for strength.Nicholas is now getting ready to celebrate his 11th birthday, and is 100% perfectly healthy. I know that this may not be the outcome for your Creed, but I wanted to share my story with you. Creed is already a lucky boy, and you and your wife are blessed to be his parents. Your strength, and courage should be admired. May God bless you both, and baby Creed.

I love your perspective! Especially the part about being gracious to others who congratulate you & your wife. My husband had a brother that was born with anencephaly. The doctors told his parents that he would die right away, but he lived for 10 months. He had only 1 kidney & some other health issues. It's amazing what God does & what he allows sometimes! I am praying for you & your wife during this difficult journey.

Your story is very close to my heart. Our second daughter, Holland Grace, was diagnosed with a fatal heart defect in utero. My husband and I decided to carry full term knowing that Holland wouldn't live long after birth. She was with us for 2.5 days. Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep is an organization that connects families with volunteer photographers who donate the gift of infant remembrance photography. Because of this organization we have many photographs of our precious Holland. I hope you are able to find a photographer in your area. I send my prayers up for Creed, you and your family. https://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org/

Thank you for sharing your story. I too can relate as 5 years ago we were told that our son Noah had Trisomy 13 and wouldn't live. He proved the Drs wrong in so many ways and that God is bigger than any Dr. While he now lives in Heaven, his legacy continues on. I started my blog because of my son at http://www.treasuringlifesblessings.com/p/noahs-story.html . If your wife would want to talk to someone who has walked this journey, please have her get in touch with me (I have a contact button on my blog). Oh Tai and Amira! My heart aches for you and tears are in my eyes. I feel your pain and anguish. I feel the hurt and unfairness. You are two strong, loving individuals who will learn and grow from this unimaginable experience.
I became an advocate for standard ultrasound screening in the ob/gyn circle shortly after my 1st full term pregnancy ended as yours will. This technology was relatively new in the 70's; had I undergone this routine examination, we would have known our destiny and could have made choices and plans accordingly as you are. We weren’t given a choice; we had no advance notice of what was to come; we came home after delivery to all the new baby gadgets; crib and changing table set up in the freshly painted nursery along with all the neatly folded infant outfits.
The most shocking and dreadful arrangement thrown at us was the funeral. We were young; we had no experience burying the old, let alone an innocent child with whom we had different plans!
I tell you this, only so you can embrace and arrange your survival for the next months ahead. You appear to have command of what you want and where you’re going. Your approach to this saddest of days is admirable and inspirational. Lean on your family, friends and each other.
Time will heal most of your sorrow. God bless you and your family.

Amira, God has wonderous things in store for you. Keeping you in my prayers, and may we join in praying for those who freet about little things: let us pray that they never face what you have, but should they be confronted thus, may they find their answers in a Loving God.
Tai and Amira, I have to admit that when I first heard the story about your baby, my initial thought was, "why don't they just terminate the pregnancy and move on?" But now that I've read your story, I completely get it. I understand why you would want to continue the pregnancy and give birth to your son; how you would want to be able to hold him and love him for whatever time you have. That is very commendable. You are two very special people.
I'm not a particularly religious person, but I admire those who believe. I hope your faith will sustain you both in the trying time ahead.

I recently attended the visitation with parents (a young couple I know and love- I taught the young man's sister in Sunday School 25 years ago) who lost their beautiful daughter on the day she was born. She was held, she was loved, she was lost and she will be remembered. They have just one photo of the three of them, framed, cherished. I pray for your miracle, but I also pray for your strength and comfort. I pray for your faith and I take joy in your faith, because you will see your baby again some day.

According to Merriam Webster's dictionary, Creed is a statement of the basic beliefs of a religion, not solely specific to the Christian Faith, similar to a tenet, or doctrine.
And, of course, Daniel, of the lion's den. Judged by God and found to be worthy.
My heart aches as I read your story, and your faith and bravery. Isn't it nice that you live in a country where you have choices, and your choice is a testament to your faith and fortititude and I'm impressed with the two of you in the face of this blessing and adversity.

Very touching story indeed. Bless you both for the choice you have made. Do not underestimate the power of God. Miracles do happen. I was told my grandson had not developed properly. He had no legs. My daughter had toxemia and was very ill. While giving her medicine she needed, his heart would stop. He was taken early after they had given steroids to help him develop. He came out beautiful, with all his limbs. God performed a miracle for me and he can do it for you as well. The best to you both always.

25 years ago our son was born with a much milder, but potentially fatal condition. Had we known about it prior to birth, our days would have been different, but the outcome the same. We were blessed that a nurse caught it a few hours after birth and surgery was able to repair it. We didn't know until we left the hospital with him later whether we'd get to keep him or not.
Our prayers are for you, your wife & family. That through whatever may happen you will know joy, in spite of pain, love, in spite of greif and fellowship in spite of loss. Trust God, regardless of the outcome, even when it hurts and makes no sense. Thank you for opening up with us all.

It's important we maintain freedom of choices in life and in death. I chose not to know in spite of my doctor's recommendation because of the dangers of pregnancy at my age; it didn't matter to me what a test result was. Tai - I can't even imagine going through what you and your wife did. It seems heartwrenching. But, the nature of humans is that we individually have certain things which are taken from experiences that may differ from others. That's what makes us who we are. Tai and Amira, condolences for your loss. My neice gave birth to twins about fifteen or so years ago after learning that one of the twins had a heart condition that would not be compatible with life. They chose to carry Joey to full term. His twin, Alex is an excellent athlete, and is one of three living siblings. Like the two of you, these parents followed their faith. You honored your love for Creed Daniel DeSa, your faith in God, and you each embraced the other's love for a child that Dale Evans Rogers would have called an Angel Unaware. She and Roy brought a child named Robyn into this world who had Downs Syndrome. Robyn's time on earth was short, but she helped two Hollywood stars bind their love for one another, their other children and children around the world. Do a sweet thing for Amira and yourself: order Angel Unaware and read it to one another. God has great things in store for you.
My youngest daugher is a gift from God: she is ever my reminder that GOD ANSWERS PRAYERS. She was two months premature, had two related medical complications that kept her hospitalized for three weeks. Doctors gave her less than a 50% chance of surviving. I prayed "LORD, if you take her, I will understand; and LORD if you let her live, I will raise her to your glory. Any day now, she will be my partner in real estate. She has given me three grandsons, and I have made a new commitment to God, that I accept His will in my life, and for whatever years he grants me in my senior years, I will devote myself to preparing these three and my other six grandkids for lives of service in His kingdom. May He bless the two of you to long healthy, blessed and productive lives as parents and grandparents in His cause. As for those who do not understand your decision, may HE grant them opportunity to understand. Our God is THE MARVELLOUS CREATOR, REDEEMER, and the KEEPER OF HIS PROMISES. With Faith as small as a mustard seed, the might Oaks of Service shall grow as shelter for our Hope and Love.

They say that the unborn child can actually hear and process while in the womb. Creed will stay with you and be alive in your hearts and be able to share in your lifetime of experiences that way too.

Thank you Sybil for your continued prayers. Amira is 7 months pregnant. Our baby Creed kicks and moves around a lot in her womb. The latest ultrasound shows that he has nothing above where his eyebrows would be. We appreciate your taking the time to pray and stay in touch with us.
I read your story through Sybil Campbell 's reblog and wanted to just reach out to you by sending prayers of strength and comfort for your family. You and your wife are a wonderful testament of faith and you have touched many with your decision. May God continue to bless and keep you safe.

Thank you, Pat. We appreciate your prayers.
You are both very brave. I can not even imagine the pain of of your broken hearts. Blessings and prayers to your family.
I wish I had some words of comfort, but know that everyone who hears or reads of your story will be praying with you. I admire your strength to be able to carry to term. I doubt I could make that decision. Bless you and your wife, and sweet little boy.
Your faith is so strong. I am inspired reading of your choice, and courage to face the loss you know is coming. You choose to look at the beauty of being a parent for a day, and that is so amazing. My prayers are with you.
It is very sad some lives born without giving the chance to stay.
You will be blessed. Wish you and family the best,

Sybil,
Congrats on the feature a sad story for sure. I would not make the same choice and glad it is not mine to make!
Tai,
My prayers with you. It is so difficult to choose joy in the face of adversity and circumstance. That is what we are called to do. Your post is the most touching example of that I've ever seen.

Update: Five years ago today, on December 19, 2015, Creed Daniel DeSa passed away hours before birth. Today I am saddened and privileged to announce the release of my book Living with a Baby Who Is Going to Die at Birth . It is designed to help people find joy even in the painful seasons of their lives. It shows that even an unborn child can live with purpose and encourage others to become closer to Jesus. Thank you all for the comments and support you gave my wife Amira and I in our tough season five years ago.

I am so touched by your story, Tai. I cannot fathom what you went through and I'm so thankful that you shared your story in a book. Your faith carried you through this incredibly difficult time and guided you to share your story so that you may help others.
An incredibly tough decision to make. May your hearts be at peace knowing you made it together and in love. Mark
