We live in our houses on autopilot. We can find our way to the kitchen in the middle of the night without turning on a light. But if we needed a light on, we don’t have to look for the switches because our hand instinctively knows where all the switches are. And that 13 watt CFL that is saving us money is enough light to find the coffee maker.
But dear sellers, for your prospective buyers, this is the first time they have set foot in your house. They need light, a lot of light and it needs to be the right color temperature to make your house look warm, inviting and bigger than the buyers’ current residence.
They need the blinds open and the windows crystal clear.
Those light switches and the walls around them, need to be pristine clean.
And that old smelly mat that you wipe your feet on may cost you a sale.
When we do things for the first time, all of our conscious and subconscious senses are on highest alert to protect us. Give your prospective buyer a break. It’s their first time, in your house. Prepare accordingly. You don’t want it to be their last time in your house.
