What Are You Running From & Where Are You Headed?

Inspiration Series

Running

In my life there are many things that I have consistently run from.  Some examples are running from criticism, judgment from others and sometimes running from myself. As I reflect on the things that I run from, I have had some opportunities to dig deeper within to understand why it is I run from certain things in my life.

Running away from some things however, are not always a negative thing. Turning and running from bad habits, negative people or destructive behaviors and thoughts is a good thing. Being able to recognize when you need to put on your track shoes and bolt is critical! Why is it then that putting on those shoes and running is difficult?

It is easy to stay on the same path or treadmill and just stay in your "safe-zone"! It is easy to be comfortable in whatever circumstance or situation you are in. Non-movement can result in stagnation.  Yuck!

The dictionary defines the word stagnation:

     1.  State or condition of stagnatingor having stopped, as by ceasing to run or flow.
     2.  Foulness or staleness, as one emanating from a standing pool of water.
     3.  Failure to develop, progress, or advance: periods of economic stagnation followed by bursts
          of growth.
     4.  State or quality of being or feeling sluggish and dull.

Pretty yucky is right! Stagnation results in thick, green sludge! I for one prefer clean, clear water.

Some ways to to avoid stagnation in your life is to determine and define where it is you WANT to run! Do you even know the race you are on? How do you run this race intentionally?

These are important life questions. Get off of that treadmill! Get yourself on the road to attaining your dreams and goals. No race is ever achieved without some training.

Here are your take-aways:

*Determine WHAT things you are running from.
*Determine WHERE you want to be.
     *Determine HOW to get there!
*Determine WHO needs to be in the race with you!

                            "Have you fully LIVED today?"

For the most part, I am running along the right path..oh, yes occasionally I am sidetracked and may run down a path that is not really meant for me...but, that is ok...as long as I recognize it and get back on course.

Paula, I love the concept and message of this article. It's easy for us all to get caught up in work, paying attention to every social platform we track, trying to fit family time in after a long day. This article reminds me to enjoy life, enjoy the moments that are passing by. Very inspirational, loved it! Life is a marthon, not a sprint.

Paula McDonald - Well done.  My knees aren't what they used to be so I have to walk / crawl away.  Stagnation is something I constantly fight though not always successfully.

Cheers,

Tom

The most interesting part of your post, to me, is the title!  I've never really thought about what I'm running from - and I should, it would be an important revelation.

But more so - if one is running away, then what indeed are we running toward. Brilliant thought!
