Thievery, poaching, banditry, purloining... happens quite often on construction sites. Builders have to deal with this, homes they are building cannot be locked up and secured till the windows and doors are installed. Sad, but true. Some Contractors will hire a security service to patrol the area in the evenings. Building materials are delivered to job sites for the sub contractors to use, and depending on what it is it usually sits inside or in the garage, or even outside in the yard till it get used/installed.
I had a pre-drywall inspection yesterday morning. Nice young couple building their first new home, in a gated subdivision! We had the inspection all set up with the builder a month or so ago, and they called me the other day to say the house was at that point and we were ready to go. So I met them out there yesterday morning, and the builders project superintendant was there also (of course). I walked into the garage and stopped in my tracks!
The night before, someone had come into the house and stole all the copper wiring in the house! Almost all of it anyway. At the top of the main electrical panel they cut it at the wall header and pulled all the runs that go through the attic, snipping them all off at the rooms they ran to. The fire stops were in place at the headers so they merely snipped them all off and scurried, dashed, scampered, hightailed it outta there! So much for hanging the drywall that afternoon... The builder will have to get their electrical crew back in there and pretty much rewire the whole house! I mentioned to my client that they need to make sure that they don't just splice the wires in junction boxes, make them pull all new wires. They could have gotten more if they had spend just a few more minutes there, but they got enough! My clients were visibly upset; the wife said that she felt violated because her family was going to be living there.
I get it... totally!
